I've stayed at a number of the Hotels in this Paddington area, this entire section is smaller guest houses/small hotels, and the Columbus keeps it simple but clean, and gets it right for a one-night stay - or a couple more if you needed it! No issues finding it, a short walk from Paddington, and friendly service from the lady on the front desk. Small and quiet hotel in itself, we were on the front and no problems at night. If you know London hotels, they're always a bit of a quirky layout but this does the basics and that's all I needed. Helpful service again in the morning, from the chap now moderating the continental breakfast, which is your classic toast, cereals, OJ and there's a coffee machine to - a welcome addition to get the morning started.

We were staying one night for a theatre trip. The room was ideal with coffee making facilities and was clean/comfortable. The complimentary breakfast was perfectly fine to start our day. Dana on the front desk was very kind and helpful - we were able to check in a little earlier after our early flight, and leaving luggage was no problem. The hotel is close to Paddington and Lancaster Gate tube stations. We prefer the bus as you can see more landmarks - the 94 from Lancaster Gate goes past Hyde Park, Marble Arch and onto Oxford street. From the other end of Sussex Gardens you can get the 98 which follows a similar route but ends up going past Tottenham Court Road/Charing Cross Rd in the theatre area - we used that most often. Google maps showing public transport will direct you to the bus stops and when you’re on the bus they all show which stop you’re at. You can use your Oyster card and I think each journey is cheaper than the Tube. My only slight gripe would be no toilet in the public area of the hotel - when we went back to get our suitcase, my young daughter needed to go before we left to go to the airport and we were given a resounding ‘no’! That made what would have been a 4 star review into 3.5!

Great little find, we stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed a comfortable stay. Great locations just minutes away from Paddington tube station, lovely friendly staff and clean room with plenty of space to get ready near plug sockets and a mirror which is often not the case in many hotels. Breakfast was a continental offering which was sufficient, tasty and fresh. My only feedback for improvement related to the main shower head in the shower cubicle, we chose not to use it because it was extremely dirty with a build up of sludge which would be very easy to remove. Thankfully there was a small hand held shower head available which albeit needed cleaning too was no where near as bad as the static one on the wall. Overall good value for money and we would definitely book again and certainly recommend to others.

I want to say that you get what you paid for - unfortunately I paid for a hotel room with a bed I could sleep in which this wasn’t. The mattress was like a breeze block and resulted in 3 hours of broken sleep 😞. The bathroom was tiny, no shower mat, no plug for the sink, no working extractor but shower was hot and good pressure. Pillows and duvet were comfy and the room was warm. Communal areas and bedding clean and tidy but under the bed was a used vape and tissue. The stairs are steep. Staff are friendly. The parking is 1 space right outside the hotel - you have to be exact (no lines) to avoid annoying other hotels and anything bigger than a medium size car will not fit. £15 a night and £20 deposit taken (not listed on hotel page) also clarification required over how long you can actually park there (24 hours or just until check out). Breakfast basic but ample - maybe a microwave would be good to warm food up. Location was really good - 10 mins to Hyde park, 5 mins to 2 good local pubs (Monkey Puzzle for a Sunday roast, the Victoria for a classic London pub). No homely touches ie pictures. No plugs by bed. Cheap room and 2 stars but expected a little more.
