“Not Quite the 4*”

As we only remember the last part of a review, I'll start with what I found to be a problem or problems! This is listed as a 4* hotel, but, and this is my opinion only, this is lacking what I would expect to be 4*. The room. I had asked for a quiet room. Now I know its London, but a street facing room isnt an ideal start for being quiet. Given that we'd been travelling we couldnt be bothered to ask to move as it was only a request. We couldnt turn the radiators down, and the room was very hot even with the window open, which had to be propped up with a wooden beam. The TV is very outdated, and the aerial cable had been broken at the wall, but with a good push this was reconnected, however the menu on the TV remote was not available so couldnt set a sleep timer. The bed. The mattress was quite clearly beyond its use. The springs had gone, and meant we both ended up rolling together in the middle, where it was sagging. This meant two nights poor sleep, not ideal. The bathroom. A decent size, but when trying to get a drink of water I dont expect the tap, when set to cold, to be pumping out hot water. I would also expect there to be privacy glass, but instead the toilet is set next to a standard glass pane window, so unless you want the street to see you go about your business you need to close the curtain! Now the ok bits Booking this hotel was not a problem, and its location is fantastic for where we wanted to be and go. Breakfast was easy enough, with plenty of choice. Yes you can upgrade to a full english, and as a 4* I'd expect this to be included, but if you dont mind scrambled eggs on toast then its not a problem as the eggs are all included within the continental options. (£5 for sausage, bacon, beans and hashbrowns is not an acceptable upgrade cost in any town when you can get a breakfast for the same amount within a 2 minute walk!!) Staff were pleasant on all interactions, and the hotel looked after the bags after checkout was completed Would we return? To the area yes, maybe not this hotel unless changes were made
