As always a great stay at the Great Northern Hotel. The hotel and rooms spotlessly cleans . The staff polite and attentive. The location and transportation links second to none . An ideal base for exploring London . A special mention to Marco Salamon the general manager whose prompt replies to emails and attention to detail enhanced the whole stay. This is our third stay here definitely will be back.

This is a great property if you can get the room rate in the 200-300 range. Lovely rooms in a confusing layout, it is convenient across the street from the train station and underground. Breakfast is order from the menu. There are two bars on site which are also attractive. My only complaint is they don’t serve breakfast until eight on Sunday when every other day is seven. We had an early train and were disappointed with the quirky schedule. Perfect for onward travel and the King’s Cross neighborhood is riddled with great pubs. Perfect area to relax.

My husband and I stayed here as titanium members. We usually stay in the Renaissance next door but it was full, so we decided to give this hotel a go. The location is great - my husband had to catch the Eurostar in the morning, and I had to work in the City. The location was very convenient for both. We stayed in the Victorian Large Guest Room. The bed was very comfortable and very large with lots of lovely pillows. This meant that my sleep (at 8 months pregnant) was one of the best I have had in weeks! There was a free standing bath with an attached shower head. This was great for me, but not so much for my husband who would have preferred a walk in shower. One negative was the amount of light that came into the room in the morning; the blackout curtains let too much light through the gaps in the top. There was a kitchenette in the hallway where you could get camomile tea and slices of brownie. This was a nice treat at the end of the evening. Sadly, the breakfast was not good. Ours was included (thankfully because I would have been very disappointed to pay for this). If you are a Marriott member you might be used to having lovely big breakfast in the morning with a choice of continental and cooked. Unfortunately, here you have to choose one breakfast dish from the menu. So you couldn’t have eggs on toast, and a pain au chocolat, for example. We chose a full English. It wasn’t good. The bacon was undercooked and very fatty. The sausages were poor quality. We ordered beans (normally £5 extra) and they were bland. The orange juice was carton juice, not fresh. Overall very mediocre and not worth the price if you are paying extra.

Finding the way to the reception the first adventure as no reception sign at entrance. You go through the door for The Rails restaurant and turn right. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Ensuring our luggage was carried up to our room. Room 315 definitely quirky but stylish with it. It was clean and well presented, with plenty of sockets for charging all our gadgets. Wardrobe eventually discovered only to be just big enough for a witch's cloak but forget the lion ! Again a tv that offered just advertising and an even more limited choice of viewing. Might as well not have it in the room. Once more breakfast not like any other, other than St Pancras, with too much orange juice and cereal. While warmed over bread is apparently what passes as toast. The cost of breakfast ridiculously exorbitant. Even Midas would have been astonished at the charge ! Next day we got breakfast at Starbucks for a minuscule fraction of this.
