As a treat to end our 2 week stay in Far Sawrey we booked afternoon tea for 6 family members, ages ranging from 14 to 74! I emailed the hotel in advance to book and explain our dietary requirements and I received a quick response. On the day we were welcomed by Jonathan, who took us through to a very pleasant dining room. He was very friendly and amusing and explained each course for us. There were a variety of teas on offer and a pot of coffee was provided for one non tea drinker and a glass of wine for another. The first course was a very tasty soup served in a small cup and saucer. Then arancini with a nice tomato sauce, followed by lovely sandwiches including vegetarian options as requested. There were fruit and plain scones, served warm with cream and jam, just gorgeous! Then the most delicious cakes and deserts, they were beautiful. We were given a second pot of fresh tea and everything was served at a leisurely pace, we weren’t rushed at all. We couldn’t quite manage the last 2 scones which were placed in a box and wrapped with blue ribbon for us to take with us, a really nice touch. The waitress was helpful, friendly, polite and efficient. We will definitely visit again in the future, and all of us declared it was the best afternoon tea we had ever had. Thank you.

Review for cedar manor: Jonathan and Caroline have created something truly special. More than simply running a beautiful bed and breakfast, they have curated the feeling of being welcomed into their own family. It was the first time I have experienced what I had always imagined a traditional English bed and breakfast could be—warm, personal, and deeply connected to the place and the people who call it home. One of my favorite memories was talking with Jonathan. We had fallen into a wonderful conversation about England, the house, his vision for welcoming guests, and the Lake District itself. Unfortunately, I had to take a phone call, and because of our travel schedule we never had the chance to continue it. I genuinely wish we had. It wasn’t just small talk—it was the kind of conversation that gives you a richer appreciation for England through the eyes of someone who truly loves it. The home itself is simply beautiful. Every detail reflects thought, care, and genuine love. The grounds are immaculately maintained, the rooms are furnished with exceptional quality—including beautiful furniture with soft-close, full-extension drawers—and the view from our window was breathtaking. Every item left in the room felt carefully chosen, not because it was expected, but because Jonathan and Caroline wanted their guests to feel cared for. We also enjoyed afternoon tea upon arrival, and it was one of the highlights of our trip. It was intimate, elegant, and beautifully presented. Jonathan was a gracious and refined host, and the entire experience felt authentic rather than staged for tourists. Breakfast each morning was outstanding. It was the kind of breakfast you wish you could wake up to every day. Looking back, if we return to the Lake District, we’ll do things very differently. Instead of spending our time on organized group tours, we’ll stay here longer and ask Jonathan for his recommendations on exploring the region through local walks, villages, and hidden places. After experiencing their hospitality, I can’t imagine a better way to discover the Lake District. If you’re looking for more than a place to sleep—if you want to experience England through people who genuinely love sharing it with others—I cannot recommend Jonathan and Caroline highly enough.

“Totally perfect”

Had a wonderful 2 night stay here. Lovely atmosphere, exceptionally clean and welcoming and great breakfasts. Please don’t hesitate to stay here if you’re after a quiet, relaxing accommodation on the edge of town. Just wonderful.
