On our last visit to hotel the rooms had been refurbished to an excellent standard, and the public areas were being refurbished, and they had been completely and looked amazing. We had a 2 night stay and eat in the Blaney Bar on both evenings, and the meals were delicious and as usual the staff warm, friendly and so helpful. The room had a fantastic Lough view and view over the 18th golf course.

Lough Erne Resort is in a stunning location which along with the food I would stay is its strongest points. Unfortunately I wouldn’t call this hotel a 5 star for multiple reasons but I will start with the positives first. The food is absolutely delicious, and I am very picky with food quality especially when I’m paying a lot for it. (Which we did here) Now, we did just eat in the Blaney bar, but it was excellent, although expensive. I must say that vegetables *should* be included in a dish. We got the slow cooked beef, but had to order veg (literally a small portion of broccoli and carrots) as a side, for £6 which is ridiculous. The dish only had the beef, potato and sauce. I think for the price of £22 a person should be getting a square meal. The next positive. The staff are a delight, very friendly and welcoming. Service is fast and always with a smile. They are a credit to this place. Location. The location is beautiful with plenty of walk ways and an amazing golf course (if you’re into that). We enjoyed a walk around the complex. Accommodation. We stayed in the lodges, which were very nice. The bedrooms were a bit dated, but the lounge area was beautifully furnished. The beds were comfy too. We had the lodge to ourselves and I believe the receptionist said it means we have the downstairs lounge to ourselves. Sharing the downstairs lounge with other guests would be very strange and uncomfortable but thankfully we didn’t have to. Now, on the to negatives and why this hotel isn’t a 5 star, maybe a 4 star at a stretch. The amenities within the hotel (spa/pool) are not great. The pool is very small and there is not a lot of seating. Unfortunately it doesn’t compare to a lot of 4 star and 5 star hotels I’ve been to. Very bare bones. House keeping. A 5 star hotel should have daily housekeeping. We were surprised to not have our toiletries replenished in the lodge, which we really needed done as we ran out. Also no fresh towels were dropped in and not even beds made. There were very limited toiletries (shower caps etc. All the 5 stars I stayed in included extra toiletries) and no instructions for the coffee machine. The accommodation was very nice but it wasn’t 5 star standard in appearance or added touches. The hotel unfortunately is very drab and old fashioned looking. It really needs a new lick of paint. Breakfast. Breakfast was quite disappointing. Once again not 5 star standard at all, more like 3 star. The buffet was very small and basic, my mother didn’t finish her breakfast because it just didn’t taste good. Staff were very good though. I think Lough Erne could really benefit from a small “spa village” addition. Spa for the ladies, golf for the boys. It definitely has the space and the views from a rustic hot tub or something would be incredible. Something similar to the galgorm’s spa village and this hotel would thrive to new heights. I will start with the positives. The staff are extremely welcoming and professional. The room we stayed in was very nicely decorated and very comfortable. We ate in the bar that evening and the food was absolutely delicious and the decor is stylish and the seating comfortable. We went to the Thai spa to have a swim and use the facilities and although there weren't many people there, it felt quite crowded. There aren't many seats but worse there nowhere to hang your robe and towel. A couple of wall hooks, and I mean a couple. We ended up leaving ours on the poolside in a pile, which was not ideal. The breakfast the next day was a big disappointment.Again, the staff were not the issue, very welcoming and professional.I opted for the buffet breakfast and when I went to get a plate from the warmer the plates were stone cold. They plate made my hot breakfast ice cold by the time I arrived back to the table. My wife had a prepared hot breakfast which she said was nice so maybe I should have gone for that. The pastries were extremely stale, at least a day old, if not two. Disappointing as breakfast is the last interaction the guests have at a hotel.
