Village Hotel Maidstone

“No air conditioning.”

Stayed during the heatwave. Room on 2nd floor and was very hot on arrival. Windows would only open slightly. I did have 2 fans in the room but neither of them worked very well so had quite a restless nights sleep.

We’ve stayed at this hotel a couple of times & it has been perfectly adequate, but boy does it (& you) suffer when the weather gets warm. The public spaces are nicely air conditioned & the welcome/self service check in works well & the Starbucks is always tempting. We’d booked a king size room which on this occasion was towards the back of the hotel overlooking the EV charging area. The room itself is a decent size although the decor is on the dark side & not helped by the inadequate lighting in the main part of the room (I feel obliged to say that, to me, hotel room lighting seems to be a hotel industry standard problem & whilst ambiance has its place, it doesn’t help you find something in the bottom of your bag or suitcase). You get the usual coffee/tea making amenities as well as a large flat screen tv. Our king size bed was in fact 2 singles with 2 rock hard single mattresses with a topper across them to give the illusion of a king size bed & it was extremely uncomfortable. Now it was hot & there were 2 fans in our room. An old style tower fan valiantly doing its best when we arrived & a handsome behemoth of a Dyson fan which was next to useless & no controls provided to try & make it any better. The Dyson was preset to level 8 & was static so no oscillation, however, level 8 was barely noticeable when you were 6 inches away & you couldn’t tell it was on from a foot away. The hotel is badly in need of A/C. The bathroom is a good size with a nice walk in shower & dual shower heads so you can rinse off those important little places more easily. I’d like to see some type of grab handle in the shower & the glass panel extended a little to minimise water overspray onto the floor & making it slippery on exit. The provided amenities are good quality although they were a little stingey with the towels. The pool is lovely, the gym was stifling at 8.30am & no ventilation or A/C working. Breakfast is ok, but the coffee machine is dreadful & the bacon strangely tasteless. Would we stay here again, yes, probably, but trying to avoid the hotter weather. Top tip would be to take your own fan with you just in case!
