We have been visiting for a number of years now since the days when De Vere owned and managed the Hotel. Since that time it has changed significantly. Previously at breakfast you were seated offered tea coffee etc served in cups with a teapot or coffee pot brought to the table along with toast on a plate. Now it’s mugs with spoon left in them and queue for the machine. The same for the toast. The main component’s are self Service but even the quality of that has degraded. We were there in early April and had dinner in their restaurant. Sadly again the menu is somewhat lacking. We choose the steak option. When it arrived there was a small to medium piece of steak along with half of a tomato some chips and a piece of bone! The steak was 34 pounds per plate. Two rather inadequate steaks and a house bottle of red came to 95 pounds. The prices are 4 star sadly which the food doesn’t warrant. The staff were friendly and helpful as usual. The standard of the rooms are adequate for a one night stay as there is little or no storage. Recently in the past twelve months they have removed the net curtains from the windows which means that you have no privacy from passers bye unless you close the main curtains and keep the lights on. The management seem to be looking to cut as much cost out of the business while increasing the price. In terms of comfort I would say the rooms are about the same as a travel lodge.

I paid a similar price to a premier inn to stay here, so that is what I compare it to. Hotel main building is beautiful, with lots of character. Unfortunately, that not where you stay. The rooms are in out buildings, running in rows like a holiday camp. Some elements are new, like the bathrooms, whilst others still need some love, like the old table in the room with a broken piece of glass on top. Generally clean but found plenty of cobwebs behind the curtains. Food and drinks were expensive, £12 for an egg sandwich and a few crisps. Clearly spent more money on the website than the hotel.

“Nice overall”

The room was very small for a family of four, Childs bed was broke on arrival- this was fixed quickly by staff. The room was very small for a family of four, Childs bed was broke on arrival- this was fixed quickly by staff. Positives- Grounds and house are lovely and well kept, breakfast was nice and great for kids. Parking was easy. Negatives - Some staff were pretty miserable and pool was closed on the first day we stayed due to being too warm??!
