Treated my friend, Carol, to afternoon tea after she had treated me to the same in Edinburgh. Arrived 20mins early. Greeted warmly by Victoria, General Manager, who kindly enquired of the kitchen if they could accommodate us earlier. No problem. Ashley waited on us and was lovely. Very attentive. Very accommodating. Excellent afternoon tea. Delicious. Can highly recommend.

The stay was fantastic. Food amazing. We loved the way the staff welcomed us on arrival, the owner introduced him at out evening meal and of course the welcoming dram in our rooom.

Two night stay to celebrate my 60th and I booked the cottage for a “luxury” treat. Our first impression of the cottage, which is situated next to staff quarters, was there was no wow factor. Hedges required trimming, paint peeling and grass needing cut. We had just stayed at a property in Cornwall that was the same price per night and that property was far superior, spotless and beautifully furnished, with four double bedrooms, overlooking Cape Cornwall coast. Once inside Ardean, I realised it is just a basic self catering unit, probably used previously as staff accommodation. There were stains on the sofas, carpets, wallpaper peeling, patched up paint on the ceilings. Now the worst part, the toilet in the bedroom had not been cleaned and whoever had last used it, left it disgusting. I won’t go into more detail about that..We immediately called Kirsty on reception who arrived promptly and showed her the toilet. She was very apologetic about the state of the toilet and the condition of the cottage in general. She offered us two rooms in the hotel but we had a fridge full of food we brought as we had packed for self catering. A cleaner was sent over with throws for the sofas and she sorted the toilet for us. The only luxury items in this property are the beds and bedding. The evening of my birthday meal was spent in the little hotel bar as we had our wee dog with dog us. It was set up nicely for us and we had two lovely members of staff, Hubert and Gabi looking after us. We had a lovely evening with great food and wine. The grounds are well looked after with little paths for walks. I cannot fault the staff at this hotel. They were all very nice and Kirsty arranged a price reduction for the cottage experience. I really think the cottage is way overpriced for how basic it is. £696 for two nights is not worth it. It really should be half that cost. I really hope the management read this review and do something about the condition of the cottage. The hotel is for sale on Rightmove so I doubt it. I have added some photos showing the condition of this place, but have left out the toilet ones..

“Overpriced.”

Beautiful location. The staff were very professional. The bed was very clean and comfortable. The hotel was a little tired looking. Dinner was just ok but breakfast delicious. A pleasant stay but very overpriced compared to elsewhere
