Self check-in...maybe update notice on door as there is nobody on site at all except breakfast time. Room 3, needs some TLC, curtains dirty and torn. Self check-in...maybe update notice on door as there is nobody on site at all except breakfast time. Room 3, needs some TLC, curtains dirty and torn. Shower extremely mouldy and flooring lifting where it's been wet. Please don't put bath mats on floor as it looked dirty. Window sash broken and paint around windows needs repainting. Outside paintwork in desperate need of redoing...overall does not look like it's being cared for. One night stay, wouldn't stay again. One plus ..breakfast room very nice and breakfast excellent.

“Could be better in certain areas”

We've spent 3 nights here and have very mixed feelings. Rivendell looks beautiful from the road, out the front looks beautiful, well kept grass and frontage. We've spent 3 nights here and have very mixed feelings. Rivendell looks beautiful from the road, out the front looks beautiful, well kept grass and frontage. Plenty of parking at the back but also a shed that looks ready to fall down, a pile of fencing and allsorts and looks very tired and a bit of a mess, could be easily remeded with a lick of paint on the fence and clearing the rubbish. The first day we arrived I looked up from the car park and noticed the wooden windows had all peeling paint on the outside and looked like they need a little love and attention. We got to the front door and there was a notice with a number to call and a lady guided us through the code for the key safe and which room number we were in. Room 4. On entering the room was very clean, looked lovely and had tea making facilities and little packs of biscuits. Now where it goes wrong.... went into the ensuite, used the loo and the handle is all loose and wobbly. The light above the sink has dead bugs in it, the shower leaks from the bit at the wall with water pouring from it when shower is in use and lots of off putting mould and black at each corner and along front of shower, grouting and grouting along back of sink. The extractor fan, whilst being on at the socket does not work so condensation pours down the mirror etc probably leading to the mould. The most concerning thing was the smoke detector in the bedroom had been taped up with masking tape, a pretty big H&S issue. We decided to see if we could look at another room so I rung the number on the front door and asked the lady on the phone, she said there was no staff on site and to ask in the morning. We went for breakfast and saw the only staff member we saw during our entire stay, the chef, who appeared to be doing everything. He was lovely, very polite, very helpful and accomodating. He showed us room 1 and 5 which are 'superior' rooms and on the face of it looked better so I phoned the number again and asked if we could upgrade given the issues in our ensuite but it was an aditional £178 to move and we didn't think it worth it so had to stay put as we'd already paid when booking. Breakfast was good, with the chef being attentive, full breakfast was lovely, other options available, cereals etc available too. The building and staircase, the dark wood, the blue, green, red themes are in keeping with the style of interior and beautiful. Some areas are tired and really need addressing, especially taped up smoke alarms. Concerning.
