Had a lovely stay at the Old Town Chambers - the staff were really nice and welcoming and showed us to our room through the maze of corridors (you find your way quickly!) The room was amazing, clean, very comfortable and had a wonderful view over the city. The kitchen had more than what we needed for our stay including a decent coffee machine. The location is brilliant for exploring Edinburgh - I couldn't recommend more.

“Nice place well located poor customer service”

spent the weekend up here in Edinburgh and booked these apartments. spent the weekend up here in Edinburgh and booked these apartments. Check in was easy and straight forward and ideally located on the Royal mile. short walk up to the castle an d10 mins from Waverley station. Room was lovely with a full kitchen and nice touches with some water in fridge, tea bags, coffee, milk enough to settle you in for a couple of days and then can top up if required. The only issue I had which annoyed me and stopped the rating being 5* Wass the treatment around eating in the restaurant. Upon checking in we were asked to join Marriot Convoy, usual rewards system, but gave you 20% off food and drink ion hotel restaurant. Not bad so we signed up. Came down the Saturday late morning to book in for lunch but there was private function on so restaurant was out of bounds, not mentioned at desk the day before. I asked the Maitre d if we would be ok for dinner that evening and he relied it would be fine as the function was just until early afternoon. We told him we would be back for dinner after our day out, no issues. We returned around 7pm and asked about a table only to be told they were fully booked. I explained my conversation earlier that day and spoke to a number of staff members all to no avail. what made it even more annoying is that whilst we waited for an answer to our dinner request, 45 minutes, we could clearly see there were empty tables. Eventually we left after having drink at the bar, they cannot pour a decent pint to save their lives, but that is another matter. We left the hotel and managed to eat at another location and returned to the hotel around 830pm. There were still empty tables in the restaurant. I was so disappointed in the way we were treated with no apology no what can we do tho make amends despite the fact we were told there would be no problems having dinner there. It really did take the shine off our stay and I was disappointed that our issues were not addressed. I was again disappointed that nothing was mentioned at check out the following morning, despite me speaking to the on duty receptionist and manager the night before who said they would add it to our file on the room. it certainly has put me off returning as my expectations for a quality hotel is how they go about fixing the issues that guest have during their stay. This issue for me was not dealt with as I would expect.

“Upkeep problems”

The room was very large which was wonderful. It also had a lovely view over New Town. I had high expectations given the reviews, however the experience really fell short for my family and I. The room was very large which was wonderful. It also had a lovely view over New Town. I had high expectations given the reviews, however the experience really fell short for my family and I. The room unfortunately had dirty stains on the curtains in the bedroom, a cracked tile and rather filthy looking grout in the bathroom, and the drain in the main bathroom shower that didn’t drain properly. The headboard on one of the beds also was missing a cover on one of the buttons which isn’t a big deal, but demonstrates the lack of attention to upkeep. It was also very important to us that we had a washer and dryer - it was one of the main reasons we chose this hotel. We had a washer/dryer combo, but the dryer did not function properly so we had to ask for a drying rack which was provided. We are used to having to line dry clothing as we live in Europe, but it’s frustrating that the unit wasn’t functioning as advertised. Upon checkout we were not asked about our stay. If I find myself back in Edinburgh I will not be returning here.
