In a word WOW”. A friend brought us to the Hotel as a. surprise and boy was it a surprise. Absolutely stunning . My husband and I have stayed in a few 5* Hotels but I must say this was one of the best . Fabulous friendly staff throughout the hotel nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them. Restaurant staff who served our Afternoon Tea the waiting staff who attended our table at Dinner were outstanding ,but if I had to choose one person it would have been our Waiter at dinner Kieron ,very knowledgeable ,great interaction with the guests and a great sense of humour. We usually go to Jersey to celebrate our birthdays in March and November but Fingal Hotel is now our new go to . Thank you for an unforgettable experience .

I don't write reviews however this time I thought it was worth to share our dinner experience at Fingal. Fingal was recommended to us by friends who recently went there for dinner. We decided to give it a try and from the moment we arrived, the staff set the tone for the evening with their warmth, friendliness, and professionalism without being intrusive. We felt very welcomed and relaxed. Janette talked us through the menu and explained the dishes. Every dish sounded very appealing so we even enquired if they do a tasting menu but currently they don't. From Sundays to Thursdays they do a deal of 3 courses for £55 which is very good value for money taking into account the quality of food and service on offer. Food was the star of the evening, dishes were delicious and creative. My wife and I though the food offered a different, fresh and thoughtful approach with certain unusual but exciting combinations which worked very well together. The presentation was uncomplicated and somehow elegant. To star I had the scallops with coconut foam and vanilla butter and my wife had the smoked venison with parmesan, pumpkin, amaretti and black truffle. We both tried each others starters. The scallops with vanilla butter and coconut foam were exceptional, perfectly cooked and the flavours worked very well together. I never heard or thought of such a combination of flavours with scallops. Quite often where we go, I have scallops with black pudding, cauliflower, apple and so on. I was really taken by surprise by such an unconventional combination: scallops, coconut and vanilla. The whole dish worked so well together. The smoked venison with pumpkin, parmesan, amaretti, and truffle was another highlight. It was nicely presented and tasted even better. The smoked venison was delicious, the flavours of the dish balanced very well earthy richness with a gentle sweetness. For mains I had duck with pickled mooli, yuzu sesame and a citrus sauce and my wife had monkfish with celeriac, parsley and Scottish wakame salad. Both dishes were very good, every single element on our plates was delicious, they all went well together and the presentation was beautiful. For dessert we had pear tart with pecan ice cream and the cheese plate. The pastry of the tart was thin and crispy and we loved the crunchy sobacha on top of the tart. First time we heard of and tried sobacha. We are pleased to see that even if the dishes may sound unconventional the Chef prides himself on provenance: Edinburgh butter, monkfish landed in Peterhead, wakame grown in Portparick, scallops come from Orkney, salmon from Wester Ross etc. We like going out and in our opinion at Fingal dishes were creative, comforting, simple and yet sophisticated without being pretentious. Service was also 10 out of 10. We'll be back!

Our stay at the Fingal Hotel was truly an unforgettable experience. Staying on what was once the last lighthouse tender boat felt incredibly special and unique. The room was very spacious and the bathroom was spotless, with a powerful shower and a great selection of shower gels. I particularly enjoyed the whisky-inspired one, which was a lovely Scottish touch. The room also included a tea and coffee machine, and fresh milk was delivered, which was a thoughtful detail. The bed was extremely comfortable, although it did feel quite high! The staff were absolutely fabulous—warm, welcoming, and always happy to help. They provided great advice and quickly resolved the only issue we had (a faulty coffee machine), which showed their excellent level of service. Breakfast was definitely the highlight of the stay. There was a fantastic selection to start with, including croissants and breads. The yoghurt and granola were delicious, served with finely chopped fresh fruit. We had poached eggs which were cooked perfectly. There were also plenty of hot breakfast options including bacon, sausages, eggs, tomato, oyster mushrooms and many other choices. Overall, the service throughout breakfast—and the whole stay—was brilliant. It was a truly memorable experience and we would highly recommend it. ⭐🚢🥐

We recently stayed at the Fingal Hotel for three nights and it was a lovely experience from the moment we stepped on board. We received a genuinely warm welcome, which immediately set the tone for our stay. The service throughout was first class and hats off to the team serving in the restaurant and bar in the evening and breakfast, they were all friendly, attentive and professional. A special shout out to the chef as well. The food was wonderful, so make sure you eat supper on board at least once during your stay. I can highly recommend the breakfasts, and the porridge brûlée was absolutely superb. It’s certainly an unusual and unique venue, but it’s well worth staying slightly outside central Edinburgh for the experience with a very easy tram ride into town. All round, very well done to the whole team — we look forward to coming back.
