I stayed for one night and overall had a comfortable stay, though the hotel feels more like a strong three-star than a true four-star experience. The location is excellent in Glasgow’s West End and only a couple of minutes’ walk from the Botanic Gardens. It’s a lively area with plenty of restaurants and cafés nearby. The attached restaurant Bo'Vine is open to non-residents, as is the bar beGIN. My room faced Great Western Road but was surprisingly quiet. Sleep quality was excellent with virtually no road noise, and the very high ceilings made the room feel spacious. The Wi-Fi was also reliable and fast enough for conference calls, which is always appreciated. The room itself was clean and comfortable but fairly basic for a hotel describing itself as four-star. There was no minibar or fridge, no bottled water, and the tea tray was very simple (custard creams rather than anything more premium). There’s also no air conditioning, although the tilt windows do open and there was a fan in the wardrobe along with a safe. The room had desk and easy chair so two people could sit. Although an older property, refurbishment means there were plenty of plugs for laptops, chargers etc. Breakfast was good, served in Bo'Vine and was probably the highlight. There was a decent continental selection alongside a self-service full cooked breakfast. Not quite luxury hotel level, but definitely above average. A big challenge is parking, the top-floor of the nearby multi-story (shared with the Hilton) was full at 15:00. There's street parking around the hotel which is free between 18:00 and 08:00 and all day Sunday. I was fortunate in arriving at around 15:00 on Saturday so paid for the maximum allowed 3 hours at £15 before the free parking started at 18:00. Overall: comfortable, quiet and well located with a good breakfast that obviously appeals to families. With a few more in-room touches it would feel much more like a genuine four-star stay.

The location is very good. Close to to the uni, and there's a smattering of shops and restaurants along the high street. The hotel exudes corporate chain hotel vibes. It used to be a Hilton, and it looks as though they didn't bother updating anything when the new company took over. The room furnishings are outdated, including the cookie-cutter bathrooms with the sink-shelf and molded bathtub. Some of the furnishings in my room were broken. Flickering bedside lamp, cracked shower wand holder, not sure if the fan worked, seemingly no thermostat. Some of the outlets are plugged up, and some aren't even UK standard. My room had bits that were not clean. The mugs and glasses had residue from previous guests, some scraggly hairs in the bathroom, a dusting of years of old skin cells wedged into cracks around the desk. Noise travels through the hallways very easily. But all that said, it is kind of a precise blueprint of a corporate chain hotel. No frills, no thrills, set your expectations on neutral, and that is what you will get. Feels like a three star gal with lots of makeup caked on. This hotel needs a competent investor that actually cares about its guests, doing a full makeover and upgrading, and not just making a quick buck thanks to location, with junk left behind by previous companies.
