“Nice staff, quiet room and good food”

A small, four-room hotel on top of a pub, but the pub was not noisy and no sound came to the room at all (at least on a Sunday-Thursday stay). The location is excellent, many sights are within walking distance and Subway stations are quite close too. Continental breakfast is included, and you can buy a full Scottish breakfast if you want. Both were very good. I also had dinner twice at the pub and the food was excellent too. Check in is at the pub counter, which can be a bit confusing if the pub is busy. The staff was very nice.

I had a mixed experience during my one night stay. On the plus side, the staff were great - really friendly and helpful, and the continental breakfast was one of the best I have had - really tasty greek yoghurt and fresh fruit, as well as toast and preserves. The location is also good for access to the city centre, particularly the Merchant City area. However, the room I stayed in (no. 4) lacked some basics: *The shower was faulty - lots of water coming out of the base of the hose at the taps. I did manage to shower but it needs fixing/replacing. Mentioned to staff when I checked out. *Lack of plug sockets - one double socket for everything. I looked to use sockets behind the bedside tables but they were old-fashioned round pin sockets so couldn't use those. *Also no mirror in bedroom, which makes it hard to know what you're doing when drying hair, etc. I managed to buy a small one in Poundstore on Argyle Street. Plenty of mirrors in bathroom but obviously no sockets in there. *Not thoroughly cleaned before I arrived as long hairs in bathroom - I have short hair. *Room could do with a bit of a revamp as bit tired-looking. I recommend earplugs as it is only single glazing, and the area is popular in the evening/nights. Given the issues above I don't think the price was good value for mid-week stay.

The staff are wonderful, the food is great. The noise from the music from the bar downstairs kept me awake until late. Living in the countryside one forgets how noisy cities are. The small room is not very good and seriously needs refurbishing. It is too small a room for a double bed it is really a single room. It would have been good to have had our beds made on our second day snd glasses and cups washed snd replaced. It good enough I’m afraid. Overall, it is an old building. It does not refurbishing, the staff are great, the food is good, but I’m sure we would stay again ….
