“Excellent Service after an Emotional Day”

We held the reception here after my mother’s funeral. The welcome and service was excellent and the buffet was good, especially the vegetarian option of a goats cheese tart. Thank you for providing such a good experience after what was an emotional day!

The main hotel itself is beautiful and in a great location, just a few minutes’ walk from the centre. There’s a lovely outdoor area with a great sunspot, which we really enjoyed. The staff were very friendly and helpful, offering recommendations for the local area and transport options. The bar had a nice atmosphere, although the prices were on the high side. We ate there on the first night and the food was good. Breakfast on the first morning was enjoyable, but at £18 per person we expected a bit more in terms of variety and value. Unfortunately, the room was the main disappointment. At nearly £1,000 for three nights, we expected a higher standard. We stayed in Room 31 on the first floor at the back of the hotel, overlooking the rear entrance and car park. There was a party on the first night, which made it quite noisy. Although the music stopped around 11pm, people remained outside talking, so we had to close the window, making the room uncomfortably hot. This wasn’t ideal, especially as we were there for the Etape bike race and needed an early night, as did many other guests. The room itself felt very dated, as did the bathroom and was not really suitable for three people. It had two single beds and a sofa bed which, when opened, left almost no floor space, making the room feel cramped and cluttered. This also made it difficult and at times unsafe to move around, particularly during the night if you needed to get to the bathroom. Storage was limited, with only two hangers in the wardrobe. As mentioned, the room became very hot, and with no proper ventilation in the bathroom, it felt even worse especially returning after a day out, as it was like walking into a sauna. Friends of ours stayed in a family room and were given a renovated double room with plenty of space, so they had a very different experience despite paying a similar price. We would have requested a room change, but were told the hotel was fully booked. Overall, it’s a shame about the room, as the hotel itself, along with the staff, facilities, and location, were all very good.
