“Good stay, comfortable with good breakfast selection and friendly staff experience”

Thought I'd leave a review to balance the negative. I booked a murder mystery package with overnight stay, three course dinner and breakfast for two. After reading the negative reviews I was a little apprehensive about going but honestly it was unfounded, we had a blast. The staff were warm and fri… more

  • Guests at The Stirling Highland Hotel say: Thought I'd leave a review to balance the negative. I booked a murder mystery package with overnight stay, three course dinner and breakfast for two. After reading the negative reviews I was a little apprehensive about going but honestly it was unfounded, we had a blast. The staff were warm and friendly, the bed was comfortable and our room was clean. Yes the decor is a bit dated, however people need to understand that this is not a new building. It is perfectly clean if old style. The room still has most amenities eg kettle with assortment of drinks etc. Washes in the bathroom, iron and even an extra heater (which we definitely did not need) the only thing that would have been good is having a fridge in the room, as a suggestion to the hotel it would be ideal if there was a communal ice machine that guests could go so that drinks within our rooms could be kept cool. The meal with the murder mystery evening was alright. The breakfast was actually much better than expected there are fresh pastries, jams and spreads, a continental section of cereals and breads, cheeses and hams, dried and fresh fruits. There is fresh juice and a nice coffee machine then you have a cooked breakfast buffet section with a full Scottish selection which we found really quite nice. There was a couple of plates with marks on from the dishwasher but I happened to mention it to a staff member and she immediately took charge and checked them all to ensure cleanliness for all guests. The lady serving on the Friday in the upper bar and dining area was lovely and cheery too, the reception staff really couldn't have been nicer. The other guests at our event night were fab too we met some lovely people which made it all the better. I didn't have any issue with noise either like some others I mean it is a hotel so yes you hear people going to their rooms but didn't hear anything past twelve. All perfectly normal. There is decent parking but you do have to put your reg in as you arrive at reception to avoid fees and we were reminded as we were checking in. The hotel is central in the town centre so all the shops and eateries are literally metres down the hill and the castle is just up the hill a little. The only negative I found was a bit of a wait at the bar for the event as there was only a couple staff on but this was fine enough and they were doing their best. Oh one more thing it may suit guests to bring an extension if they like to scroll as they charge their devices as the sockets on our room were across the other side away from the bed. So if you're looking for a centrally located decent stay with a comfy bed and decent breakfast spread this is for you. If you're looking for an Instagram story reel of curated high end photos then this isn't for you. Overall we had a lovely stay and will come back again.
