This is a wonderful hotel embrassed in green nature. Calm and nice area. Comforttable beds, nice brekfast , i recommed the breakfast. Beside the architecture of the building that make you feel royal I must say the staff made you feel royal as well. So nice, welcoming and serviceminded. We hade a lovely stay and would come again! And yes lovely pool and gym experience. Walking distance to restautants and food shop in the village. Walking distance for the bus stop to go to Livingston, Edingburg and the airport. We took a taxi to the hotel from airport. But home we took citylink 902, fast, chep and directly to the airport, taxi was unnesseary. The one thing that was averege was the food in the vault bar, no wow experience im sorry.

“Fantastic”

If you're thinking of getting married, a weekend away or anything you need a hotel for, we cannot recommend Macdonald Houston House enough. The staff are so kind, friendly and professional. The hotel is immaculate and luxurious, they made me and my husband feel like royalty.

This was our second visit to the hotel, this time to celebrate a 50th birthday with spa treatments, and it was another fantastic experience. We booked a great value package including dinner, bed and breakfast, plus spa treatments. We were able to combine the two 25-minute treatments into a 55-minute Elemis facial, which was excellent. The therapist was professional, carried out a patch test, made the experience very relaxing, and there was no hard sell afterwards—much appreciated. We didn’t use the pool or gym this time as we fully embraced the pampering experience. We enjoyed a complimentary coffee in the spa before heading to Afternoon Tea in the Tower Restaurant (at an additional cost), which was lovely—relaxed, comfortable, and not overly formal. Our twin room at the back of the hotel was clean and nicely furnished. The only downside was the bathroom, which felt a little dated, with a cracked sink, older tiles, and an oddly placed hand towel next to the toilet which didn’t feel particularly hygienic. Dinner in the Tower Restaurant was outstanding, with amazing food and excellent service. As a lovely surprise, a couple of our drinks were taken off the bill when staff learned we were celebrating a 50th birthday—such a thoughtful touch and something that would definitely encourage us to return. We also enjoyed a couple of drinks in the cosy basement bar. Breakfast the next morning was exceptional, with a great selection of continental items and a full cooked breakfast that was surprisingly light and non-greasy. Overall, we couldn’t fault the stay. The staff made us feel very welcome throughout, and aside from the bathrooms needing a bit of updating, it was a fantastic visit. We would happily return in the future.

Hotel rooms are a little tired but were in a quiet location. There is no water provided in the rooms and the water stations on the floors were redundant with some people using them as waste bins! Restaurant food ore appropriately entitled Pub Grub with the Mains reading three types of burgers, macaroni cheese, fish and chips and steaks, not quite chef's style food expected of this standard of hotel. Breakfast you are penalised if you don't have the full cooked breakfast with a £6 surcharge for egg dishes, I'm sure hollandaise sauce is a lot cheaper than the unhealthy full cooked (if that's what you want!)
