Me and my husband have just arrived home from a meal at The World’s End and we were pleasantly surprised. We arrived 20 minutes early and they apologised that our table wasn’t quite ready but we were welcomed to take a seat in the bar while we wait for the table. We went back down after 20 minutes and again they apologised for the delay and seated us straight away. The dining room is small and cosy but you have plenty of room to move around if you needed to get up for any reason. We ordered our food and were expecting a wait due to it being Valentine’s Day and regardless of where you go, you expect a wait on Valentine’s Day. We waited 45 minutes and a young lady came over and explained our food is just about to be served but due to the wait they would like to offer us a complimentary drink as a way of saying sorry for the wait. We ordered our drinks and said thank you. 1, for their honesty and 2, for the drink. Our food. It was worth the wait and we were so happy with the quality of the meals we ordered. You could tell care had been taken with the meal. After finishing, we asked for the bill and the staff again apologised for the delay to which I reassured them that this is okay and it happens from time to time but with it being Valentine’s Day, we expected the wait. Something for everyone to take away here though is that you do not know everything that is going on in the kitchen, and when it is busy please be patient. There is no need to be rude to the staff who are serving you. This is out of their control. We unfortunately saw a few people being very rude to the serving staff who were nothing but professional and polite. They were trying their best to make everyone happy and they were the ones taking the brunt of customers being rude. The staff throughout this continued their professional and friendly service. Well done to those staff members!

“Could have been better.”

Met with friends for Sunday lunch. Couldn’t fault the food that we had but there were very few vegetables. For £18.95 I would expect a little bit more than a tiny floret of broccoli, a few cubes of roasted swede and carrot and roast potatoes. All in all it was a bit disappointing.

We were kindly booked into TWE when visiting nearby family - seems to have had fairly good reviews and won Four In a Bed - so likely to be good. Arrived Ok and plenty of parking space - went to reception and it took ages for someone to turn up - one of staff did see us but still seemed to take a while. Booking in process slightly slow as initially couldn't find our names - as already booked and paid in a different system. Was sorted out and then went down to room. Rooms are in block to the side of the main pub block. All seemed fine - generally clean (although cob webs in the corner of room 23 - opposite the wardrobe). Bed was very comfortable as quite firm and the en-suite modern and quite well equipped. Managed to grab a bit of a rest before we went off to see family. On return found a few issues as nighty time - the road noise is rather load as you are right next to the roadside, especially as the room was quite hot - we usually have the window open a bit. There was also an odd noise coming from the smoke alarm - something also picked up by the guests on the 4in a Bed episode as I recall. Main issue is there is an internal fire type light in green - not especially bright but as you try to get to sleep its a real annoyance - at least for me, my wife managed to sleep through. So for me not a good nights sleep and then no real lay-in as the times of breakfast restricted! Shower was good and the towels plentiful. Wife complained as no good place with lighting to do make-up. Breakfast restricted to only 8-9 as limited service as post Xmas - I would have thought it would be nice to allow guests a bit more time. Anyway - got there and breakfast buffet was pretty average - cereal choice in packets and some yoghurts for the 'starter'. You could make your own tea with hot water urn and set of tea bags - so sort of OK but but disappointing. Waitress gave us the menu and the hot food choices much better. I had the full English and my wife had eggs benedict, with additional brown bread toasted. The full english was pretty good, the sausage was probably a bit below par and no hash browns. Eggs benedict were actually really good with runny poached eggs and good hollandaise. Toast was provided but no side plates?? Toppings were provided as a basket of pre-packaged jams etc. Back to room and got quickly packed up for the check-out. Check-out process just under whelming as older lady on phone and then didn't really have anything to say when I was returning the key - so no request about the stay etc. It does seem a nice place, the actual facilities pretty good but staff underwhelming and with the road /light issues we'll find some alternatives as its most likely these can't be changed. Not a winner IMHO - pretty average for our stay. Possibly not having tried the restaurant menu was a missed opportunity.
