As a Hilton Honors Diamond member, I enjoy staying at different properties throughout the Hilton portfolio. On a recent stay in Birmingham I chose this hotel for its proximity (about 2 blocks) to the Amtrak station, which I would be using to arrive in and depart the city. The hotel was also central to the Railroad Park, allowing to watch some trains I wasn't travelling on. The park was also good for getting a lot of walking steps in, unencumbered by city traffic. As I always do, I did a digital check-in and room selection the day before arrival. But I chose to stop at the desk anyhow as I was arriving slightly before official check-in time, and also had some questions. Their first question to me was whether I was staying at the Hilton Garden Inn, or the co-located Home2 Suites. I did not see clear signage denoting where each hotel's check-in area is, a they are situated back-to-back. Luckily I was in the right place, and I was able to check-in and ditch my luggage in order to enjoy my time in the city. My room was certainly spacious and quiet. Passing trains did not bother me; I only heard the horns if I really concentrated on hearing them. I had no issues with TV, WiFi, nor climate control. The bathroom had ample counter space to put down my toiletries and pills, and I did not suffer any problems with water temperature. In the morning I did not partake of breakfast as I am not a breakfast person but prefer early lunch. Before I left the premises I requested to have my luggage stored, which they did in a locked room behind the market area, since my train departure was not until after 5 PM. This allowed me to further explore Birmingham, including the real downtown area on the other side of the tracks. After a day of brisk walking I returned to the property one more time to claim my luggage, and it was waiting for me safe and sound. Overall this was a great stay, and I would recommend it for its location, convenience, and friendly staff. W

“Ideally situated close to UAB”

As a mid-town property that was convenient to the University of Alabama's medical facilities, this HGI is ideally located. As a mid-town property that was convenient to the University of Alabama's medical facilities, this HGI is ideally located. The front desk personnel were pleasant to deal with and accommodating to a few of our questions and requests. This HGI does have a cafe/bar but we both found that the evening menu to be very limited and the meals mediocre. Breakfast is what you would expect from a Hampton Inn. However, there are some nearby sports bars and steak restaurants that looked appealing. Our room for two nights was clean and well maintained. TV channel selection is very limited and I've never staid at another Hilton property where you couldn't get the Weather Channel. One inconvenience for our room is that it had no "blackout" curtain we could close to block out the nighttime street lights. Overall, I found it to be a quiet hotel for the evening.
