This is the second time we have stayed at a Springhill Suites near a university hospital for medical reasons. The first was in Miami near U of M. On Trip Advisor it had received poor reviews. I thought it was a very well-run property and had zero complaints, and I made sure to say so in a review on this website. Well, history repeats. Springhill Suites at UAB in Birmingham has reviews on Trip Advisor that may keep potential guests away. We spent 3 nights here and I can attest that this is a very nice, very well-run Marriott property. Every single staff member we have interacted with has been as friendly, professional, and helpful as they could be. The breakfast is great and dining area is large and very comfortable. Good coffee. Our room was a little worn out but clean and well-appointed. Being downtown, the traffic noise could get loud in the early evening hours, but I always travel with earplugs so I’m not bothered. The convenience of proximity to the hospital is the most important thing for a lot of folks, and some of the nit-picky reviews are very unfortunate. If we had a need to return to UAB, I’d stay here again.

A weekend with several events and no water is very disappointing. This was not a new issue, it's been ongoing. The manager was of little assistance as he was aware of the problem.

“Disappointing Stay: Poor Service and Tired Property”

My November stay at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott Birmingham Downtown at UAB was highly disappointing due to consistently poor service and a property that felt old. I would not recommend this hotel and will not be staying here again. The service from the front desk staff was unprofessional from start to finish. Attempted Early Check-in: Upon arriving in the lobby before the standard 3:00 PM check-in time, the attendant was completely absorbed in their personal phone. They looked up and stated, "Y'all can't check in early." There was no greeting, no offer to hold luggage, and no professional courtesy. Official Check-in: When we returned after 3:00 PM, a different front desk attendant was also absorbed in their phone. The check-in process was handled with very little acknowledgment, and we received no "thank you" for choosing to stay at the hotel. Check-out: This pattern repeated itself at check-out. A third different attendant was yet again engrossed in their phone and barely looked up when we handed in the key cards. The staff's preoccupation with their personal devices, coupled with the lack of basic professional courtesy, made us feel unwelcome and ignored throughout our stay. Beyond the poor service, the property itself was not up to standard. The room felt tired and old, suggesting a significant update is needed. Only one elevator was functioning during our stay, and it was noticeably slow, causing unnecessary delays. Overall, the combination of an unwelcoming, unprofessional staff and a deteriorating hotel environment made for a poor experience. This is not the standard I expect from a Marriott brand.

Underwhelming. Rooms clean but not particularly attractive. Breakfast fairly good, although why the plastic cutlery and plates?! On arrival we asked about the pool as this was advertised and one of the reasons we booked this place. We were told it wasn't available which was disappointing for our children. The hotel offered free cancellation instead but we'd been driving from Nashville and didn't want the hassle of finding somewhere else. Asked the reception for suggestions on things to do locally and got shrugged shoulders in response! Felt it was overpriced for what it was. Parking expensive ($20) too.
