In the four years since my last Huntsville visit, things have happened to this hotel, and it isn't good. overall, it's declined quite dramatically. The good news is that there's remodeling underway, which should address a number of my complaints, and I hope management makes some operational improvements to address the others. There was frequent drilling and hammering throughout the day, so they are working on the place - but be prepared for disturbance if you're in the room during the day. There's a lot that's "out of order" during this project - the public men's restroom, the fitness center, and the only working ice machine is up on the third floor. The pool was closed but since this is December, that's more likely a seasonal thing. My room was 109, a king bed suite on ground level of this three story hotel. Which might have been a good thing - the elevator had some cardboard placed around it, and I have no idea if it was working during my stay. Anyway, the room had a king bed, partial room divider, and sofa. It appears the handy laptop tables I praised when I last stayed in 2021 have been removed, unfortunately. The lamp at the desk was burned out. Only one of the two nightstands had a lamp. Nightstands and the desk showed signs of wear. There was no stopper for the bathtub. The fridge froze all my drinks - even after adjusting the thermostat knob inside it, which by the way, appeared to be stuck until I applied quite a bit of force to move it. The older flat-screen TV had a grainy picture and used an old cable box that clearly wasn't delivering an HD picture. And there may have been a roach or some other insect in the room - it was late when I saw it, and it scurried off before I could see what it was. Otherwise, the room was decent - nothing more, nothing less. Wi-fi can be hit or miss at Quality Inns, but this location's internet gave me no issues. Bed was comfortable, and the room was worn but not in bad shape - just the minor issues mentioned above that added up to a stay that could have been better than it was. Breakfast was pretty good, with hot sausage. Staff service leaves something to be desired, though. I only encountered the same woman, probably the owner/manager, each time I saw someone at the desk (and there were a few times that it was unattended), and she appeared to be annoyed when she had to return to the desk to give me a toothbrush. In general, she wasn't all that welcoming, and she wore a casual T-shirt instead of one with the hotel's name (no name tag either.) The Quality Inn & Suites in Huntsville is barely okay in its current condition, but at least they're working on fixing it. But it might be worth finding alternate hotels until the renovations are finished - and hopefully they'll make the management changes to match the room improvements. Because this place used to be a lot better, and has the potential to be a nice hotel if efforts are made to improve it.
