While traveling, I made a stop at this hotel on the south Birmingham bypass, desiring only to have a place to stop overnight. What do I look for in a hotel? Is it safe? Is it reasonably clean? Is the bed comfortable – can I get a good night’s sleep? Is the water pressure adequate? Does the internet work? Does the air conditioning work? The answers here are all positive. The facility is in an obviously safe area, and I was confident in the security of my person and my car during my stay. The hotel was quite clean, inside and outside? The reservation was in order and I was assigned a room for which the keys worked easily. Once inside, I found that, as usual, the air conditioning was turned off so the room was warm in the Southern heat. I turned the AC on and ran it down. I left for supper and when I returned, the room was quite cool and remained so. There does not appear to be any “automatic turn-off” that is the nightmare of many guests these days. The room was very clean. The water pressure was adequate, no more than that, as is common in these times. There was plenty of very warm water but not fully hot. It was, however, adequate for showering and shaving. The hotel uses dispensers for soap and shampoo, though I use my own. The bed was comfortable. The only issue is that one side of the hotel backs on the interstate and the other on a busy road where cars are accelerating up a hill. I was on that road side and there was the noise of cars roaring up that hill. I carry my own white noise fan and that blocked out that sound quite adequately. Normally I don’t watch television when traveling but due to the World Cup, I did. The TV remote was pretty normal, but the channel access was odd and it was not easy to find exactly what I wanted but I succeeded. Also, it defaults to the home screen when turned off and does not remain where you set it. But, it was workable. There are plenty of restaurants of all sorts nearby, as well as shops, and access to downtown Birmingham is very quick and easy, even at high traffic times. So with good water pressure, good a/c, cleanliness, safety and comfort, all provided efficiently, this was exactly what I’m looking for in a hotel stay. A “four-star” hotel could offer no more – and with this one, the price is right!
