Tri-State Inn

This review is based upon an eight (8) night / just over a full-week, stay here at the Tri State Inn in Kingman, Arizona. I am not sure why this seems to happen to my wife and myself. We stay in a property that has, in a word, gotten terrible (or worst) reviews here on Trip Advisor. Let me put it this way : IF there is one very good room here at the Tri State Inn, then it looks like my wife and I got that one very good room. Just in case you're interested, it was Room Number 115, facing out onto West Beale Street / US Hwy 93. Our room was not in the back. When we arrived, we were shown our (reserved Priceline) room, a room next to the office. It was totally unacceptable and so I was able to 'shop' several rooms and selected the very nice room 115. Yes, we had to pay about $7 a day additional, but it was well worth it. To begin with, in my opinion, when one stays at the lowest priced property (anywhere) that Priceline has to offer, you can't really expect to get the Taj Mahal. This is an older property for sure. My wife and I are older (late 70's early 80's) so we too are older property, and like the Tri State Inn, we too have many nicks and bumps and bruises and hip replacements and you-name-it. Repeat : We stayed here eight (8) days / just over a full-week. IF the Tri State Inn was all and everything that the terrible-rating reviews here on Trip Advisor claim it to be, don't think for one New-York-Minute we two would've stayed eight (8) days. Our room was basically clean. Don't mistake old for being dirty. Our bathroom was also clean. The water pressure was excellent and we had very nice hot / cold water. Our two (2) Queen beds were very comfortable. Our flat screen televison was excellent. Our microwave was nice. We had a nice mini-fridge that kept water and other juices very cold. Tri State Inn does not have an ice machine. If you want ice cubes and have the time you can make them in the mini-fridge. If you want crushed ice, they have an arrangement with the gas station across Hwy 93 for free crushed ice. We carry styrofoam ice chests. Besides, for $1.79 at Walmart, you can buy a large bag of ice. The WiFi (very important to me) was excellent. We did not have any clothes racks, there were no towel racks and there was no closet. We carry our own hangars and used the bathroom shower-curtain overhead-rod for hanging things. We had no noise issues / problems with neighboring guests or the staff. The location was to our liking. Kingman is sort-of spread out anyway along Interstate 40. Out the door, to the left on Hwy 93 / Beale Street, under the overpass and there is the visitor's center and a number of restaurants and a park. Further down Historic Route 66 is the Post Office and the historic downtown area. The library and Walmart are East one exit on I-40. The front office staff were a mixed bag but certainly polite. The maintenance man, Virgil, was fantastic. Need something? Need anything? Ask Virgil and you had it! Would we stay here at the Tri State Inn again. Yes indeed.
