We planned 2 days/ nights at this hotel,after seeing the photos online we were very thrilled to stay at thia unique hotel.we arrived and were amazed by the check inn hall... ut looks more like a southern European/Italian mansion/castle. We opened our hotel room a big also in style room,as if we went back in time. Also the swimmingpool surprised us,in ths middle of the building in the open blue air we enjoyed the water and also the wirlpool. And very nice ladies at the desk who were very kind. We eventually after just one night in the good bed, asked at the desk if we could stay for 3 more days/nights.and that is something we rare ly do,we love to visit different pkaces we also enjoyed driving to Hermosa Beach where there is a nice street nearby the beach to shop and dine!

This hotel is in a great location in terms of the beaches and LAX airport. Never heard a plane and hotel was quiet. Restaurant under renovation, so only a very basic breakfast available in the lobby. For a hotel with such lovely European inspired decor, it seemed incongruous to have paper cups for the coffee, plastic "glasses" for the water and no tea available. One small issue was the fitted sheet not quite fitting the bed so the staff had left it undone. They offer a shuttle to Manhattan Beach (not the airport). Probably a good idea, as we could not find any parking at the beach due to a volley ball event on Sunday.

I have stayed at the Ayres many times over the past 15 years and have always enjoyed my visits. In the earlier years, I stayed here frequently, though not as much recently since my daughters live in Los Angeles and I usually stay with them. One thing I noticed is that the value has changed over the years. Parking used to be complimentary and breakfast was included, but both now come with additional charges. For this stay, I booked through Expedia rather than directly with the hotel, which is what I normally do. I’m not sure if that made a difference, but I was assigned a handicap-accessible room that I did not request. What was even more surprising was that the room was located quite far from the elevator. When I questioned it, I was told that I had booked that room type, which was not the case. The only positive part of my experience was the housekeeping staff, who were friendly and pleasant throughout my stay. Unfortunately, this visit left me disappointed. After many years of staying here, I will likely explore other hotel options in the Manhattan Beach area for future getaways.

The Ayres Hotel could be a great 4 star experience, but there are a few things holding it back. First of all the pool and jacuzzi in the courtyard are far from a sanctuary. They are so tiny and shaded that literally no one ever used them despite the near 80 degree sunny weather. Secondly, there is almost no breakfast to speak of. While the other Ayres Hotels have free full buffet breakfasts, this one only has an extremely light continental breakfast with no hot dishes. The hotel does not serve lunch and one of the evenings I was going to have dinner there, they were closed for a private event. Finally, the service is subpar. They list a concierge service but when asked, the front desk personnel are not knowledgeable or helpful. Even the shuttle is hit and miss. I was just told that I could not be picked up if there wasn’t anyone else to pick up even though I was the only one picked up yesterday.
