Stayed at Hampton Inn & Suites Salinas recently and overall it was a decent stay, mostly because the staff was friendly and responsive. Jennifer at the front desk was especially welcoming and made check-in easy right from the start. The hotel itself felt clean at first glance, but the longer you stayed the more you noticed signs that maintenance and overall attention to detail are lacking. When we arrived there were piles of trash and dirty linen sitting in the hallway, which wasn’t a great first impression. The elevator was also painfully slow throughout the stay. The hallways had chipped paint in multiple places and generally felt worn down. Inside the room there were cracked grout lines around the tub, hard water stains throughout the shower, poor water pressure, and inconsistent water temperatures that kept changing during showers. The bathroom fan either didn’t work or was too weak to properly vent humidity afterward. What stood out most though was how many little things appeared rushed or poorly finished. Fixtures and mounted items looked crooked or unevenly spaced, almost like no one used a tape measure when things were installed. Nothing major individually, but together it gave the impression of a quick remodel instead of a polished property. We also dealt with kids repeatedly banging on our door and running off late at night. Not necessarily the hotel’s fault, but definitely frustrating. To the hotel’s credit, once I called the front desk they sent security and the issue was handled quickly. Overall, the stay wasn’t bad. The hotel felt clean enough and the staff did a good job handling issues, but the property could really benefit from better upkeep and more attention to detail.

Pros: - Free parking with lots of availability - Larger room and bathroom - Common areas are clean and well lit - Plenty of luggage carts available - Two elevators - Updated Hilton entertainment system with large TV Cons: - Room lacks lighting - Extremely firm and uncomfortable mattress - Luggage carts ALL have flat tires, impossible to move - Low flow shower head - Not enough towels It looks like this Hampton Inn is being remodeled. The common areas look finished but it was hard to tell with my room as certain aspects like the bathroom show age. Plenty of up front parking and no parking fee! Luggage carts (although they all have flat tires) and two elevators made it easy to unload my vehicle and get to the room. The bedroom was very large, and the bathroom was roomy. There are not enough lights in the bedroom area and it was difficult to even unpack. The mattress was cheap and awful, hard as a rock. The standard low flow shower head turned a ten minute shower into a 20 minute shower. Housekeeping knocked on my door an hour before checkout but didn't speak any English so I have no idea what she wanted. The counter staff were friendly. Overall this Hampton Inn is average although I would not stay here again due to the uncomfortable mattresses.
