Before booking, I almost let the negative reviews scare me away, but I'm so glad I decided to experience this hotel for myself. After staying here, I honestly feel like many of the bad reviews are exaggerated. Yes, the hotel is located in downtown San Francisco, and like any major city, you're going to encounter some street noise. If you've ever stayed downtown anywhere, that's simply part of the experience. Unless you're staying on the 30th or 40th floor of a high-rise, you're likely to hear some city activity. This hotel has 12 floors, so that shouldn't come as a surprise. One thing that really stood out to me was how well the property is managed. Security is present around the clock, and they do an excellent job of ensuring the entrance remains for hotel guests. At no point during my stay did I feel unsafe, and I certainly didn't witness the scenes some reviews describe. The staff is attentive, the valet team is always outside, and you're welcomed as soon as you arrive. I'll admit, when we first pulled up, the neighborhood gave me a bit of a "Coming to America" first impression. But the moment we stepped out of the car, that feeling disappeared. We were greeted immediately, escorted inside, and welcomed by one of the friendliest front desk teams I've experienced. From check-in to checkout, everyone treated us with genuine hospitality and made us feel like valued guests rather than just another reservation. The hotel itself is beautiful. It is absolutely not a rundown property. It's a stylish boutique Hilton that truly feels like a little sanctuary in the middle of the city. The rooms are clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. The location was also incredibly convenient. It's within walking distance of Moscone Center, about five minutes from Union Square, and offers easy access to Oracle Park, Chase Center, theaters, concerts, and other attractions throughout San Francisco. Whether you're in town for business, a convention, a sporting event, or just a weekend getaway, it's a great home base. As an added bonus, they currently have R&B Wednesdays on the rooftop, which made for a fun evening without even having to leave the hotel. If you're on the fence because of some of the reviews, I'd encourage you to keep in mind that every experience is different. Downtown San Francisco is a city, and it's important to have realistic expectations. My stay was excellent, I felt safe, the staff was wonderful, and I would happily stay here again for our next mini vacation in the city.

From the moment we arrived this has been the absolute best travel I have had in over a decade. I travel at least once monthly for work to major cities across the country and have never received service like this. At check-in Monica made us feel right at home and ensured all our needs were met. She and Francisco checked in once we were settled to ensure we had everything we needed. We requested extra towels and they arrived within minutes. The valet parking was spectacular. On two occasions I needed something from the vehicle (things I forgot to bring in during check-in) and Niko and Yunus quickly ensured the items were accessed. Didn’t matter that they were busy - they made me feel my needs were their biggest concern. I can’t remember the last time I received service like that. Service will always get my return business over everything else, but the facility is beautiful and well maintained. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and stylish. And the shower was amazing. The location is perfect as well -less than half a block from access to the muni and BART. I cannot express how much I have enjoyed staying here. This will definitely be my go-to location when in the Bay Area. Simply amazing.

I needed a hotel near downtown in May 2026 as I was attending the American Psychiatric Association’s annual meeting in San Francisco. The Timbri Hotel partnered with the APA to offer discounted rooms but I found a better price through one of the online websites. Geographically, this hotel was very easy to get to from SFO using the BART, just get off at the Powell Street stop and walk 0.2 miles. The hotel was walking distance to the Moscone Center, where the conference was being held. Also geographically, the Timbri is located in the infamous Tenderloin district of San Francisco, an area known for its gritty streets, visible poverty, and in-your-face drug use. If I had known this ahead of time, would I have booked a different hotel? Maybe. Inside the Timbri, you would have no idea you were in the Tenderloin: the rooms were elegant and modern feeling. The concrete ceilings gave a bit of an industrial flare and I enjoyed the in-room espresso pod machine. I appreciated their efforts for sustainability by offering two metal bottles of water that were refillable downstairs. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of room to sit, including an oversized chair and a couch by the window. I love strong hotel air conditioning and this room got downright frigid. Each guest got a credit on their account of a certain amount of money each day that could be used in the breakfast cafe downstairs (Spoke Cafe), the hotel convenience store, or the rooftop restaurant (Rise Over Run). This was a nice added feature that I made sure to take advantage of. The staff was friendly and accommodating. There were plenty of local restaurants nearby and shopping opportunities. It got a bit dicey at night given the people on drugs tweaking out in the streets but I never felt unsafe, as there was security outside the entrance during daytime hours and a keycard only access door at night. Ultimately the good far outweighed the bad at the Timbri and I would stay again.
