We spent a couple nights in a Swiss rock room. The pool and jacuzzis were some of the best I've ever used. We had food at 3 different places. Food is old school basic but good in my opinion. There's bar and dining room are adorable. There's a lot to look at which we loved. Bought lots of cute things in the gift shops: famous goblets, trucker hat, favorite coffee mug with pink flower carpet print, coozie. Couldn't resist. The rooms are all old, dingy, and kitsch but I didn't mind. Was expected but times 5. The pillows were lumpy af (only complaint besides the prices lol). Great experience overall. Would love to go back!

We stayed one night at the Madonna Inn in the Caveman Room, and it was something I’ve wanted to do for years. The room itself is definitely a unique experience and the cave-style design is really fun to see in person. The staff throughout the property were extremely nice and accommodating, which we really appreciated. That said, for the price of the room I do feel like some upgrades and maintenance would make a big difference. The AC unit in our room was very old and looked like it had been repaired with packing tape. It was a very hot day and the temperature in the room was difficult to balance, either very humid or too cold. We also noticed some electrical issues. There were only a few outlets available and several were connected with plug extenders rather than power strips, which made it difficult to plug in things like phone chargers. Some of the outlets looked quite old and could probably use updating. There also weren’t any outlets near the bed. The crank windows didn’t latch closed and the bathroom window wouldn’t open. The bed was decent and they did provide plenty of pillows, which was nice. Overall, I’m still glad we stayed and finally got to experience one of the themed rooms. The Madonna Inn is such a unique place and the staff were wonderful. I just think putting a bit more of the room revenue back into maintenance and updates would really help the experience match the price.

I have always been obsessed with the Madonna Inn. Every time I drive north from Los Angeles, I stop for a slice of toffee crunch cake (criminally underrated—much better than the pink one and insanely good). I’d gawked at the steakhouse for years but had never actually pulled the trigger on staying overnight. I love quirky, kitschy places, but that sometimes clashes with my need for a hotel room to feel genuinely clean and comfortable. I chose the Caveman Room thinking the lack of carpet would mean fewer cleanliness issues. I was very wrong. The room smelled overwhelmingly musty. There’s a water feature in the main room with stagnant-looking water that felt more gross than charming. The rock sink and shower look cool in theory but also seem impossible to properly clean. I couldn’t bring myself to brush my teeth using the rock sink water—I used bottled water instead and skipped the shower entirely. That’s how skeeved out I was. The strangest feature by far was the waterfall urinal directly across from the toilet. I just can’t imagine that being sanitary. That said, the bed was comfortable, and the sheets and towels were very clean. The room included complimentary bottled water, a fridge, coffee maker, and ice bucket. The views from the top of the hill are beautiful, and the exterior of the property is undeniably cute. The pool area is great, with two jacuzzis, and everything was nicely heated—even on a cold day. There were also way more kids around than I expected. We ate at the steakhouse, which ended up being the highlight of the entire stay. The food was excellent, the BBQ-style steak preparation is unique, the shrimp cocktail was great, and the service was solid. We’ll absolutely be back to eat—but we won’t be staying again. The whole place could use a very deep scrub down.
