I recently visited the Doubletree Suites in Charlotte's SouthPark neighborhood for my second stay here. While Doubletree has expanded in recent years by buying out and renovating older full-service hotels, this location, I believe, is a legacy location which was a Doubletree before Hilton acquired the brand. This hotel looks and feels like a classic luxury hotel, with an impressive three story lobby and lots of wood. There's a lovely central courtyard with seating, a tent for event space, and a large outdoor pool. Regardless of the age of the hotel, the property still beautiful, and much of it has been maintained very well. It's one of those hotels where it's interesting to walk around the property - be aware that it can be confusing to navigate. As impressive as the public spaces are, it's the guest suites at this hotel that are its bigest asset. They're very large and well-furnished. My suite for this stay, 212, offered a kitchen area with full-size refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and cooktop. The spacious living room offered a seating area, large desk, and dining table. The bedroom and living room each had their own TV. And the bathroom featured a lighted makeup/shaving mirror. The suite overall was clean and everything (that I used, at least) functioned properly. Two minor complaints: Both TVs were mounted to the wall in a way that made connecting external sources impossible, so don't bring your game console or Blu-ray player into your room expecting to be able to hook them up to the TV. Also, the bathroom had wall-mounted bathroom dispensers instead of individual tolietry bottles, so you might want to bring your own. I sampled the in-house restaurant for dinner one night during my stay, and they grill up a nice, juicy burger. Staff service was friendly throughout, including the restaurant servers. The Doubletree Suites SouthPark is a beautiful and well-kept hotel and their suites are the nicest, largest, and best-equipped that I've found at a hotel so far. Whether you appreciate old-school luxury decor or desire extra room to stretch out and relax in a spacious, well-furnished suite, there are many reasons to select this excellent hotel when staying in Charlotte.

My family of 5 was in town for a trip to Carowinds and chose a 2br/2ba suite at this location. We opted for a digital key, one of my favorite things about the Hilton brand, and found a clean, spacious room upon arrival. We had chosen a room that specifically listed a balcony as one of the amenities, but found that our room actually didn’t offer one. This is a big thing for us as we like having a private outdoor space. So, I headed to the front desk begrudgingly, after being so excited I didn’t have to stop by. I honestly expected a headache, but I got no such thing. The manager made everything so easy. While he didn’t have a 2br balcony room available, he did make things right. Not only did he slash my rate in half for that night, but he also allowed us to extend our stay an additional night at the same rate. To top it off, he ensured we had the balcony room the following night, and we did. He even thanked me for having such an easy issue for him to fix! This was amazing for me, as often, hotel staff tend to act like things like this are a chore, even when it’s not the fault of the guest. It seems lately we deal with so many issues like this, staying often in hotels for my daughter’s travel ball, and it was honestly so refreshing for someone to make it right so smoothly. Hiccups happen. It’s a part of life. But this hotel’s manager made sure that he made it up to us and ended up giving us a longer getaway for the same price. The second room was just as clean, had a balcony, and had a beautiful view of the pool. The grounds of this hotel are also lovely. They boast a beautiful courtyard, beautiful pool with waterfall, and even have an enterprise car rental, on site. You’re in walking distance to the mall and can very easily navigate to many other shopping and food destinations. I’d recommend this hotel based on the suites alone, but when you factor in a staff that make sure your stay is pleasant (everyone we encountered, not just the manager, was amazing), you honestly can’t beat it. Definitely give this place a try the next time you’re in Charlotte. It was a bit of a drive to Carowinds, but definitely worth it for us to have such great accommodations in such a booming area.

When going to a hotel the ultimate issue is the size of the room. The room was spacious and in fact two rooms. Bed was excellent. Shower and toilet had excellent pressure which is not always a given. Location is excellent with an enormous mall next door. Internet certainly was strong enough. If looking for constructive criticism here which is minor. The people at the front desk seem to be in the back rooms and not at the front. We literally had to walk back there looking for them. Televisions are a funny thing and there are two of them. You would think in this era that HDMI and USB jacks would be easily accessible. I did not see them at all. All in all certainly worthy of a five star rating.
