Spent a week in Breckenridge for Spring Break at Mountain Thunder Lodge. The room was clean, well maintained, and well appointed with towels, supplies, and kitchen utensils and cookware. The staff was courteous and helpful. If you stay here you can take advantage of a shuttle service which allows you to request a ride throughout town and up to the slopes. We usually used the shuttle service in the morning to request a ride from Mountain Thunder up to where we wanted to ski. In the afternoons it was easier to catch a bus from the slopes back down to the gondola / bus station which was a 5-10 minute walk away. The Breckenridge ski resort offers a variety of terrain for all skill levels though it seemed the trail ratings were higher than what I would expect - blue trails were more like greens and blacks were more like blues.

If visiting Breck during the summer, might want to consider Thunder Mountain Lodge. The location is convenient to pretty much everything in Breck. Just steps out of the door of the main building is the tunnel that goes under a busy street and puts you out by the main parking garage. From there, you can walk anywhere downtown. The unit we stayed in was very comfortable. Starting to show its' age, but still very comfortable. We never heard anyone else either. Our unit was well appointed if you are planning on cooking a few meals in the unit too. We did not use the hot tub, but it looked great. This isn't a knock, but you should be aware that the units in the main building DO NOT have air conditioning. Really not a problem as the casement windows open wide and sleeping with them open at night was quite pleasant. Parking was easy-the garage in the basement is rather tight especially with larger vehicles, but there was ample parking. No breakfast but free coffee and some snacks. We had limited interaction with the staff, but they were helpful.

“Overpriced for the value”

(1) stayed last few days of September and first few of October. Checked in early on a Sunday afternoon. Desk staff said no problem for early arrival. There was little activity or apparent occupancy. Gave us the key card to a third floor unit. Manager on duty came running after us once we parked and gave us key card to a ground floor unit. Didn’t really want a ground floor unit, but ok, we were early. She said third floor room was recently painted. (?) The ground floor unit was right by the gate to the hot tub and the foot path used by maintenance folk early in the morning. Not much privacy. Furniture in the unit was really uncomfortable. Sofa sleeper couch was hard to sit on. The king mattress on bed was very used. We saw new mattresses going in to other units during our stay. Bath tub wouldn’t hold water. Hot water was not hot. This is not what we expected for the rate we paid. (2) Several days after checking out, my credit card was hit for $95. I called the resort. I was told these were amenities fees not disclosed or part of our fully prepaid condo. I was told, when we checked in, I had to provide a credit card with a $300 hold that was for security purposes such as any damages or additional charges. I was told it would be released after our checkout and a review of our room. None of that is unusual but there was nothing said about the $95. We won’t be going back.

I have stayed here multiple times, this time we booked through Expedia, which promised what you see is what you pay. It flashes up there every time you log in. I have stayed here multiple times, this time we booked through Expedia, which promised what you see is what you pay. It flashes up there every time you log in. Well this is more of an issue with the greed and downfall of vail resorts. But since I stayed at this lodge the review lands here. The property is great and a nice place still well maintained. Nothing will turn a traveler off more than hitting them with a resort fee after you were promised no hidden fees by the booking agent. I paid it. It was not the money that was the issue , frankly it is the stockholder greed from vail resorts destroying the brand. Then of course there was a 20 dollar fee for a late check out . Not taking 3 pm here , we moved it from 11 to 12 so we could do some shopping.
