We had a very nice stay at this comfort inn. The clerk that checked us in , Lucy, was very nice and personable and gave us several good suggestions. The room seemed newly redone, it had new bathroom fixtures and sink and new vinyl flooring which we like. The carpeting in the halls seemed new and they were working on front lobby so more improvements on the way. Breakfast was pretty standard with eggs and sausage, the waffle bar seemed pretty popular and they had a yogurt machine with toppings along with the regular pastries and cereals. One of the things we like best at this hotel is the underground parking. Probably 20 degrees warmer and no snow to clean off. The manager was at the desk at checkout and seemed very involved and friendly with the guests. We have stayed here quite a few times and will be back.

“Beware the extra “Tourism fee”!”

The price was right, so despite it being a little bit of a drive from downtown, we took a chance after several years between stays. Checked in was quick. Got to the room and heard a loud buzzing right away from the fridge. Went back to the front desk and asked to be switched. 2nd room the 1st key we tried wouldn’t work once we got to our 3rd floor room, luckily, key #2 was ok. The bedding has seen better days with snags everywhere, there were coffee stains on the walls and something that looked like food on the shower curtain. It was quiet (even though we were directly in front of the elevator). The bedding was comfortable enough despite the fitted sheet not really fitting. I DO like that they still have bath tubs and the fridge and microwave in the room. Breakfast was where it kind of falls apart. The waffle batter was straight liquid to the point that there were tons of cups sitting out in front of it as a warning sign from others who tried to make them. That includes the regular variety, strawberry, pumpkin, and gluten free. The orange juice is watered down and not drinkable, they have plain white bread, but no bagels, plain eggs and sausage. The seating is quite limited (sort of like their parking). You’d better be in by 8:58am, or the door is shutting for entry as breakfast is over at 9, despite there still being plenty of food left, no one else is coming in. They did keep the eggs and sausage filled, to their credit. After checkout, despite if you’ve prepayed through a 3rd party, you can expect a nice little surprise charge on your credit card for the “tourism fee”. In case you’re wondering, it’s not charged by the Hotel Colorado or Hampton Inn and Suites. I called to inquire with them after being told it was mandatory in the whole area. (Never paid it before on 6 prior visits to the area). $10 per night! In Glenwood Springs the only tourism tax is built to the price with the rest of the taxes and is 2.5%. Not a flat rate of $20 for a 2 night stay (which would add up to 8-9%). If an additional fee is being charged on top of the prepaid amount from other booking site, 3rd parties will alert you in advance. It has become standard for Vegas and some other areas, but never snuck in after that stay with no other mention, and never on a hotel with no pool or extra facilities! Glad I have a credit card company that takes care of its customers and is great with dispute claims. We stayed here in the past as Glenwood Suites and thought it wasn’t bad for the price, we won’t be back under Comfort Inn and Suites.
