There were dogs everywhere we went during our stay here. There was one dog down the hall from us that barked all afternoon. Regardless, this is a nice hotel.. The room was fine. There is a small heated pool. There is a really good breakfast/lunch restaraunt. It is located just steps away from the ski lodge and shuttle bus stop. The shuttle bus into town is terrific. It drops you off in the heart of town. We had a good stay here despite the dog population.

Location was great. Availability of food/restaurants poor. Rooms are very dated- my room (#370) had one functioning baseboard heater that was either "on" or "off" so no way to regulate the room temperature (it was either hot or cold). The shower was warmish but never hot. No microwave in room. Pro… more

Location was great. Availability of food/restaurants poor. Rooms are very dated- my room (#370) had one functioning baseboard heater that was either "on" or "off" so no way to regulate the room temperature (it was either hot or cold). The shower was warmish but never hot. No microwave in room. Provided hot chocolate packets but no way to make hot water. Wallpaper in bathroom peeling off.

We booked the Grand Lodge this summer, admittedly without a ton of research. When I read the TripAdvisor reviews before our trip, I panicked a little, but we were already locked in. After spending 5 nights there in a King Corner Suite, here are my thoughts: Location - 5/5, really excellent. It's steps away from the town shuttle stop on the mountain, which makes getting to town for dinner amazingly easy. The shuttle comes every 15 minutes. It's also right at the mountain base, so a quick 5 minute walk to ski school and even closer to the base restaurants and stores. There was also a small store right across the street for basic groceries, medicine, etc. Front Office Staff - 5/5. The front office staff was wonderfully attentive and very friendly. Perhaps they've hired new ones since the prior reviews. They were basically the only staff we interacted with though. Room Set-Up - 4/5. This room had a corner view (of the parking lot) but had a separate king bedroom and a pull-out queen couch. We also had a rollaway brought in that fit nicely alongside the pull-out couch. All 3 beds were VERY comfortable and we all slept well. The room was very quiet. We were near some pet-friendly rooms and saw a number of dogs in the hotel, but never heard any of them. There was also a tiny kitchen but it had a fridge, microwave, small dishwasher, coffee pot and some basic dishes. Room Cleanliness - 1/5. This was an OLD room and was looking pretty run-down in places. The grout in the bathroom was black in some spots and is in desperate need of a refresh. It seemed more like what I would expect at a motel 6 on the highway than a hotel at a ski mountain base. Now that Vail has purchased this resort, I hope they bring the level of accommodations here up! We also killed a VERY large spider on my daughter's bed. The sheets were supposed to be changed on the 3rd day, but were not changed once during our 5 night stay. We did get a towel refresh 2 or 3 times, but they never took the trash out or did ANYTHING other than change towels. We didn't expect a full cleaning every day, but at least once would have been nice. Amenities 3/5 - There was a nice hot tub and a very warm pool that was quite popular. the restaurant in the lobby was just ok, so we only ate breakfast there once. French toast was horrible, but the breakfast sandwich was good. I'd say this is a steal of a price compared to other hotels/condos located this close to the ski base, but you get what you pay for on room fanciness. It's OLD. We did enjoy our stay, though, and I would certainly come back if it got a facelift. It's not as horrible as other people have commented, though.
