This was our 7th stay at this location this year due to its proximity to Christiana Hospital and our need to be close for cancer treatment. When I had surgery back in February we stayed here for a whole week and it was pretty good. We appreciate the hot breakfast they serve and the hotel was clean and comfortable. However lately I feel like each time we stay it goes a little more downhill. We stayed about 3 weeks ago and they put us in a room that smelled bad and it wasn’t until later in the evening that I realized what the smell was. It was pet urine. So this time when we checked in I asked the front desk if we can request to be in a room where no animals have stayed and she said ‘we can never guarantee that’ and I asked if they don’t have rooms reserved for people traveling with pets? And she said they try to keep them on the 1st and 2nd floors. She did put us on the 4th floor and it was very fresh smelling in the room so if you have allergies I would make that request. Later in the evening I went down to the front desk and asked for extra pillows, she kind of made a face and said ‘I don’t know if we have any’ but fortunately housekeeping did bring some. I also asked if we could have a late checkout because I have 2 appointments and I needed a bit of flexibility. She said I would have to come down to the front desk in the morning and ask. I did that around 7 am and was told that the best they could do was 12:30 when I had asked for 1 pm. She told me they have diamond level members that automatically get 4 pm checkout without requesting it. That didn’t really make sense to me and I felt like she was deliberately not willing to help me. This is based on questions she asked me that I will not post here. My point is that for the money we’ve spent there over the past 5 months I felt like they could have been more accommodating and whenever I would encounter a front desk person they were usually unfriendly and never a smile. I think that if you are working in the hospitality industry that friendly and smiling would be a key part of how you greet people.
