We visit Tampa/Clearwater/St.Pete about twice a year, but haven't stayed at this property since 2018. Our experience was mostly positive, with one weird hiccup. Check in: Check in was efficient and pleasant. Adam gave us our keys, arranged for our late check-out request, and went over the items included in the $25/day resort fee: bike rentals, Jolley Trolley ride, Internet, two free desserts and, for Marriott Bonvoy Elite Members, one drink per day. Self-parking costs another $30 per day, but it is contracted out to a third party, so it doesn't go on your room tab, but is paid for separately via QR code. There is no valet parking option. You must pay for your entire stay's parking within an hour of arrival. In the past, I have had parking fees waived at other Marriott properties, but because of the third party vendor, that isn't an option at the Sheraton. Room: We booked a standard room as part of a Jetblue package. Last time we visited this resort back in 2018, things were looking a bit rough. The good news is that the Sheraton had a glow-up in 2024 and now the guest rooms look fresh, modern and beachy. There's a lot of white painted wood and new navy headboards. The addition of hooks on the wall is great for drying bathing suits. There's also plenty of drawer and closet space for your clothing and a mini-fridge, which is handy. The bathroom remodel makes the space look airy and light. However, note that the bathroom door swings in towards the sink area which is quite narrow, so if you open the door from inside the bathroom, you need to stand back. All the toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion) provided were mildly scented and of good quality. Housekeeping: Housekeeping was excellent. Our room was always pin neat. Pool area: The pool deck is an inviting area. The pool itself is medium sized with plenty of lounges and tables surrounding it. There's also a great view of the beach. (If you want to go to the beach, you can walk from the pool or take the golf cart shuttle.)The pool is the ideal place from which to watch the sunset and this is where our experience gets a little odd. After dinner, we returned to the pool area to watch the sunset. The view was indeed exceptional, but the songs playing were all Christian hymns. I don't mean one song that mentioned God. I mean a solid half hour of Christian music had played and was still playing when we left. Keep in mind that this was a Wednesday night around 8 pm, not a Sunday morning during church hours. A partial playlist, courtesy of my Protestant upbringing and Shazam, included: How Great Thou Art; Jesus, Thank You for the Blood; Amazing Grace; The Goodness of God; Mighty to Save, and In the Mighty Name of Jesus. The last time we stayed at this property, the music tended more towards Jimmy Buffet and other beach resort standards, so this was a surprise. The hymns were loud enough that we surmised they were coming from an audio system in the pool area, not a guest's portable speaker, since no matter where on the pool deck you sat, there was no avoiding this music. Also, there were not many guests around the pool at this point and no visible portable speakers. I can't sufficiently emphasize how off-putting this musical selection was. Having someone else's specific religious music intruding into my downtime was obnoxious. We didn't pay to attend a religious retreat, but that is what this felt like. I don't think expecting a large corporate resort's pool to be a secular space is unreasonable. If chosen by a Sheraton staff member, this unrelenting Christian music was a clear message to non-Christian guests that this resort doesn't value their business. If it was an individual choice by a single employee, that worker needs coaching. If the hotel chain has decided, without warning, to make the Marriott/Sheraton experience more Christian, we won't be coming back. We looked for an employee at the pool area to express our concerns, but there was no one there. Instead, we spoke to someone at the front desk and asked if there was a religious group staying on property. (We once stayed at another resort with a teen Christian retreat performing mass baptisms, and there was no such music or any impact on our stay.) However, there was no religious group at this Sheraton. The clerk suggested that the music could be another guest with a portable speaker. We said it was too loud and pervasive for that to be explanation. But, let's imagine it was a guest portable speaker instead of an in-house system. In that case, no one employed by the resort was monitoring the pool closely enough to find that guest and tell them to turn down their very loud, very personal music. That absence is its own problem. Whether someone is playing hymns, bhajans, death metal or salsa, they shouldn't be permitted to broadcast their music so it is unavoidable to other guests. However, this was an isolated incident in our three night stay. Other than this religious rabbit hole, our stay at this property was solid and fairly priced. The location is excellent. However, I am not sure I would return.
