I just returned from a four day stay at this hotel for a business conference and wanted to share my insights. Starting off with the positive, the hotel rooms were not quite new but at least they seemed well maintained. The bed was fairly comfortable. They used very good linens. The pillows were not great, artificial material filled and a bit too firm for my liking. My room was a mini suite that included a small living room with the bathroom off of that, and a good sized bedroom with a king size bed, work desk, and large screen TV. I found it strange that the bathroom was off of the living room as opposed to the bedroom, which is normally the case. The cooling system seemed to work fairly well, although I heard a number of guests complain over breakfast that the AC in their rooms was not functioning. The hotel apparently was a Sheraton prior to being acquired by Wyndham. Having stayed at quite a few Sheraton/Starwood properties over the years I could recognize the format. The dining area for breakfast was a buffet format, about $25 per day and not included in the Room rate. Overall the food quality was quite good. Now for the not so good. The hotel location was in a very urban neighborhood of downtown Atlanta. I'd not been to Atlanta for quite some time so I noticed a dramatic change for the worse in terms of the homeless population and panhandling very nearby the hotel. I was accosted three times in one day by panhandlers when I decided to take a short walk to a nearby restaurant. Big mistake. My room on an upper floor was extremely noisy in the evening with horns and sirens blaring pretty much all night, every night. At first, I was wondering if a window was left open, causing that much noise in my room, but upon checking the windows were not openable. Another oddity was the maid service. No maid service was provided the first day on the second day I requested it and when I returned back from my meetings, I noticed a number of things were missing from the room that were there prior, including a box of tissues in the bathroom and two water bottles that the hotel provided that I had not yet used. Very weird. Lastly, the front desk personnel could use some training in etiquette and proper treatment of customers. When I checked out, I described my maid service situation and they basically sneered at me, never apologizing. When i asked for a printed receipt of my room tab you would've thought I asked them for a free lunch. They seemed genuinely annoyed. Needless to say, I will probably never be staying there again. From what I could see there were many more better options a short distance away.

The staff were friendly and polite (highlights to Bernice in the market, the registration desk, and the bar manager). Their ability to assist with tangible things was not as effective. I was at the hotel for a conference weekend, and two of the elevators weren't working. We had a substantial number of people who were using walkers and scooters to get around. And yes, the hotel is technically ADA-compliant, but it was challenging. Even the lobby level had five steps to get from the desk to the rooms on that floor. The first floor (one story below the lobby) where the conference rooms were located had steps leading to the hotel rooms on the floor. In order to reach the rooms designated "floor 1" or "floor 2", a second elevator in the back of the building was required, which meant the staff had to be available to operate a small lobby-based elevator to move dozens of mobility -challenged folks (not to mention luggage) back and forth between these two levels so they could attend the conference and get to their rooms. The installation of a ramp on one side of the five-step staircase would have made this experience so much more pleasant and reduced staff struggles. Drink service in the bar was very slow, possibly because there was only one bartender. (It was weird to order drinks, and then order food and get the food before the drinks arrived.) Twice during my visit, when the poor bar staff were still waiting for the tender to make the drinks they ended up having to call in the bar manager to assist. The room was clean. The desk light was not working. Neither was the room phone. I reported both issues to the front desk in person. When returning several hours later to follow up, they later told me that since they couldn't get through on the phone they were unable to set a time to fix/replace the desk lamp. (Yes, we know you can't get through on the phone, remember the SECOND issue I reported when I explained why I came to the front desk in person instead of calling?) I do appreciate friendliness very much. But sometimes it takes more to make a successful hotel experience.
