As a family who has spent at least 25 family vacations at the Marriott time share properties (owning) in Hilton Head (Grand Ocean and Monarch) we had certain expectations for this property. We were on the first floor, ocean side in the Lahaina tower. We had the two adjoining rooms. Obviously this was a hotel at some point and they have done a bit of retrofitting. Unlike the properties we’ve stayed in previously the units while a good size need a fair bit of updating. The units were pretty well loved and didn’t have the level of care and maintenance that the other properties have. I’m not sure if we were in a tower that has not undergone its refurbishment yet- but it definitely needs to be worked on throughout. The primary suite is fine but overall it needs a new bathroom and a new mattress. The second bedroom could use two queen beds ( ample space) instead of a queen bed+ sleeper. The kitchen while fine needs all new appliances and more dishes/cutlery/pots/pans. Everything was pretty worn out. So as someone who sees the member fees/ maintenance I’m not sure why the property (or this tower) is so worn out. BUT as all Marriott properties the pools and facilities are all very nice. The grounds are beautiful and clean. While it was full it did not feel crowded. Most folks were families like ours. We did not use the pools much as we were truly there for the beach. The resort is right on the beach and our unit had an amazing view with two patios which made it easy to enjoy the ocean at all times (as well we could walk in and out to enjoy the lanai). Parking is tight (as it is in all of Hawaii) but with a rental their location means you can choose to visit many different beaches in the area. It is also a short walk to Whaler’s village. We did not eat on site but Hula scoops has great ice cream, there is a Starbucks and a food truck for breakfast which is nice and easy to access. The staff was lovely and any issue that came up was handled easily by using the message feature in the app. The location is truly fabulous and hopefully they can continue refurbishing the property so it meets the same standards as their other time share properties.

This hotel was nice for our week's trip to Maui. The suite was nice with comfortable beds and clean bathrooms. It was nice to have a large pool right outside and close access to the beach. One negative of the pool is that the hotel staff does not enforce the "no reserving spots" People put their towels and bags on chairs before 8AM and don't even show up to the pool until hours later. I watched one woman put towels across two chairs in the shade and then another four chairs in the sun. How is that fair to the rest of the guests? And the hotel staff does nothing to stop this. They give as many towels as you want. Another negative is the food at this resort. The Beach Walk Kau Kau To Go food was fine, but nothing spectacular. One night my husband and I ate at Longhi’s Restaurant and it was a disappointment. Upon being seated we were only given one menu, so we had to share. The service was slow - we were ignored for almost a half an hour before we were even offered a drink. I ordered the filet mignon but what I got was a sirloin at best. My husband ordered scallopini and what he got was more of a thick cutlet. I would find another restaurant in the area if possible. A nice advantage was it was within walking distance to Whaler's Village where you can find stores and restaurants. It has a nice open air mall atmosphere. Overall, not a bad place to stay but it could use some improvements.
