“Volcano House”

Very nice place. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet is delicious thanks you Chef Daniel. Saw a little volcano activity but not the big eruptions. I would highly recommend staying at least 1 night

“This is the place to be to watch steam and lava!”

I loved the view here. Owned and operated by a man who loved to watch and tell stories of Pele, beginning in 1904. Large sitting chairs, large walkway viewing area. My room had private seats outside for viewing. Besides this was the restaurant and viewing room with food, two gift shops and the amaz… more

“A good option to explore the volcano”

A good hotel, not outstanding but the only option in the national park. I was left with a bad taste because the hosts was not so kind.

“Outstanding Staff Deserves Great Credit”

We arrived for a one-night stay in the midst of a severe storm. Power was out through the duration of our stay, the park was closed, the crater was invisible due to dense fog, the floor of our room was wet, the shower was cold, and the bar and dining room were closed. The property appeared to hav… more

Key features of the moderation of reviews

There is an automatic system that detects offensive language, in which case the review will not be published. If an owner reports one of the reviews, the review will be re-evaluated and, if it fails to comply with our content standards, it will be taken down.

Our criteria for collecting guest reviews

After getting home from the trip booked with us, the customer will receive an email asking them to review different aspects of each of the services booked. The system only allows the booking holder to complete this review and only once.

When will my review appear on the website?

Reviews typically take less than 24 hours to appear on our website. The process may take longer if our team of moderators have to examine the review in more detail.

How long will my review stay on the website?

Once it has been published, your review will automatically appear in the summary of reviews and if it is considered a featured review (based on publication date, length and quality of content), the complete review will also appear. Said review will not appear or will disappear from the system if it contains offensive language or if it is reported.

Can I get a reward for my opinion?

No. Reviews written in exchange for personal rewards such as gifts, services, or money will be taken down.

Can a review be edited?

No, once a review has been written, it cannot be edited. If you want it taking down, you can ask to have it deleted and not republished again.

Will my review appear on other websites or publications?

Once published, all or some of the reviews written by our members may be used on some of our partner sites or in promotional material in general.

If I write a review about a service, can the provider contact me about it?

No, as the personal data of the booking holder writing the review will not be shared with any service providers being reviewed. In the featured reviews shown, only the booking holder's first name will appear, meaning that there's no way that the service provider can contact you.

  • Yes, at Volcano House you´ll find Buffet restaurant, Restaurant, Breakfast buffet.
  • Yes, the Volcano House has Parking, Garage.

  • Yes, guests at Volcano House have highlighted that: I'm originally from Hawaii and have been to the Volcano Park several times over the years. We decided to stay in Volcano during our last trip to the Big Island in late March 2026 and spent 2 nights at the Volcano House. All in all, we enjoyed our stay very much. Ambience: We've stayed in NPS accommodations before and the Volcano House had the same nostalgic, mid-century feel, which we enjoyed. The registration, restaurant and cleaning staff were all friendly and efficient. Room: Our room was large and sunny, with a lanai area and a super convenient refrigerator, where we stored fruit and lunch supplies we brought with us. WIFI was fine. Food options: We ate dinner at both the restaurant and bar, and had the restaurant breakfast buffet and they were all fine. The restaurant in particular is pricey but there are no other restaurant options in the park and they were very busy in the evenings. Convenience: Staying in the park allowed us to explore areas early and late in the day without the tourist hordes. Things to note: • There are no TVs anywhere except the bar, which doesn’t open until lunch. This usually isn’t a problem for us, but the college basketball playoffs were on when we were there and my husband wanted to watch an early game. (WIFI was strong enough in our room to watch on his phone.) • It got jeans and sweatshirt cold at night while we were there, though the room had pretty adequate heating. Bring a rain jacket, as it gets foggy/rainy, particularly in the morning. • As others have mentioned, the NPS visitor center, located across the street from the hotel, is currently closed, with some parking blocked off. Because the hotel doesn't reserve parking for hotel guests, it's extremely hard to find parking during the day. The hotel recommended at check-in that we leave our car in the lot during the day. We did see that parking was challenging at many of the popular areas, especially at the lava tube. • The hotel is clearly a tour bus stop, and during the day buses are lined up disgorging tourists to use the restrooms and stretch their legs. The lobby area and restrooms are not large (women's lobby restroom has few stalls), resulting in long lines and hordes of people from morning through dinner. Make dinner reservations at the restaurant when you check in (the bar doesn’t take reservations), and stop by a grocery store on the way to the park.
