We recently traveled to the Decatur, IL area for a concert at the Devon Lakeshore Amphitheater. We chose to stay at the Residence Inn in Forsyth based on the great reviews. While only in town for one night, the Inn met our needs. the Inn was well- kept and clean. The staff was pleasant and helpful. It was a plus to open a bootle of wine and have wine glasses in our room. A member of our party mistakenly made reservations at the Residence Inn in Decatur, Alabama. This Inn was able to secure a last minute room. If we find ourselves in the area at another time, we will happily make reservations at the Residence Inn in Forsyth.

Where to start with this hotel? The problems at this hotel seem to have become a common theme at Residence Inn properties we have stayed at recently. We’ve been traveling across the country and have stayed in Marriott branded hotels almost exclusively and I can definitely say this is probably the most disappointing stay of our journey. It is conveniently located off the highway and is fine for one night’s stay, but I wouldn’t give it more than that. The whole experience was mostly below what we expect from Marriott, but sadly seems to have become the norm with Residence Inn. We arrived at 9:00 pm to a mostly dark lobby. TV’s off, most of the lights in the lobby were off and again, not 1 am, 9:00 pm. I desperately just wanted to do some laundry. Unfortunately the clerk who checked us in was nice but had very little information about how to pay for the laundry room what the prices were or anything of the sort. I got a couple of dollars in quarters only to find out the laundry room charges $3.00 a load and you can’t pay with card, but have to download an app on your phone. $3.00 for a laundry room which was a challenge to navigate and see which machine was not absolutely disgusting and covered in grime or broken. The lobby shop was sad and had almost nothing in the coolers and no laundry supplies to be seen anywhere. The hotel itself needs some love and care. The swimming pool was closed with no explanation other than a handmade sign drawn with marker, the elevator button panel seemed to be held together by tape and there was a pile of dirty towels in the stairwell that looked like they had been there for days. The room itself was fine, save for the layers of dust and the outdated phone missing the label. The really kicker was the peeling mirror and burned out overhead light in the bathroom as well as the The windows in the bedroom portion were quite drafty and let in a lot of the cold air from the wind storm outside on a night where the “feels like” temperature was 2 degrees. Again, fine for one night’s but I wouldn’t stay here again if I needed to for longer.
