“Nice clean hotel”

The room had a king size bed and a couch which came in very handy for sitting and watching the TV in the room. Breakfast was also very nice with waffles, cereal, and yogurt to choose from as well as coffee and juice.

“Great Family Getaway”

Our family stayed for a quick getaway and was very impressed. The hotel manager called prior to arrival to greet (due to Hilton Gold status, never receive this from similar chains) us and the room was spotless. Younger children loved pool and breakfast.

Stayed at this Hampton Inn for three nights in late October while visiting Mammoth Cave. Assigned a king room 235 on second floor at the end of the hall overlooking the back of the building, though I had specifically asked for 3rd (top) floor due to potential noise issues. There was some noise from above in the evenings, but thankfully they didn't last late into the night. Room was nice and there was no dominant bad smell (I did spray fresh air freshener one time), but it desperately needs a small microwave in the room. At least since my last stay here, they have added a microwave in the breakfast area for patron use and I used it each morning during breakfast. The "barn door" for the bathroom/closet didn't bother me, but the sink faucet did. It's placed poorly so that you can't wash your hands or use it for anything else without getting water all over the counter. Having the faucet on the corner of the sink is just a bad design, and this room actually had a swivel kitchen-style faucet that would flood the room if turned the wrong way and left on accidentally. There are no hand towel racks to hang hand towels on, so they just lay on the counter wet and damp all day (not good). I remembered this from a previous stay here, so brought my own portable standing hand towel rack. There are three "hooks" (not racks) for hanging bath towels. What is it with newer hotels never having towel racks anymore? Towels need to hang to dry properly, which would save them from having to be changed out so often, thus cutting down on the hotel laundry water use and washing. The design of having the shower/tub water control on the opposite side as the actual faucets was new to me, but I liked it very much. Lighting in the bathroom was very adequate thankfully, and there is an extra light/exhaust fan switch. The mattress was a bit worn and sinking in the middle a smidgen, but it wasn't so uncomfortable I couldn't sleep. A/C worked great as did the mini-fridge. The mini-fridge has no freezer compartment and is a bit smaller than some you see in hotels. I had to squeeze my cold items in very creatively to get them all to fit, but I do bring a lot. The t. v. is large and probably good, but it never got turned on other than the "welcome" message that was on when I arrived. The drawer and closet space was more than adequate, but if several folks are staying in the room, you'd run out of that space pretty fast. The night stand shelf would be more useful if it had a drawer, but it's only a shelf on either side of the bed. This particular room had a couch which doubled as a pull-out sofa bed, and there was a portable small table to use with it. There is a coffee bar in the lobby 24/7 with adequate supplies including hot chocolate. Breakfast was not bad, but varied each morning. There was bacon on two mornings, chicken sausage one morning, smoked sausage one morning, but scrambled eggs only one of three mornings I stayed, and omelettes the other mornings along with hard-boiled eggs. There were two "make your own" waffle irons (with both regular and pumpkin spice flavor batter) with toppings, yogurt, limited fruit options, oatmeal with toppings, cold cereal with milk, breakfast juices, and biscuits (but no gravy). The hotel was busy on the weekend days, especially on Sunday morning when a bus-load of rude, inconsiderate, wasteful teens were there from a school trip, and the breakfast staff had a hard time keeping food stocked, but they did their best. At least they didn't seem to run out of food totally. One more issue noted was they had only three luggage carts with that new-fangled triangular design; needed two loads to get all the stuff to the room. They need more carts and the traditional design where you can stack up larger items, then hang bags on hooks (only one cart had any hooks at all). These they have just don't hold enough if you bring lots of stuff with you to use in the room. Also, the "talking elevator" is annoying, and the doors don't stay open well when you were trying to load or unload with a luggage cart. Overall, this Hampton location is pretty good except for a few things noted above. If traveling in the area again, would probably stay here again if the price wasn't bad.
