“Great hotel and location, but the 5-person pool limit makes the pool unusable”

We are currently staying at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Louisville Downtown while in town for a cheer competition. I specifically booked two nights at this hotel, even though it was more expensive than other options, because several of my daughter’s teammates were also staying here and the pool looked like a great place for the kids to relax and swim together after competing. My stay this weekend only included myself, my 18-month-old son, and my 10-year-old daughter. My daughter had a few teammates who were also competing swimming with her while the parents watched from the pool deck. There were also several other hotel guests swimming who we did not know. About 20 minutes after the girls started swimming, a security guard came in and informed us that the pool has a strict five-person capacity limit. For a hotel with over 300 suites, this policy seems extremely restrictive, especially when the hotel advertises a pool as an amenity. To be clear, the security guard was actually very polite and even mentioned that our kids were well behaved, but explained that it was simply hotel policy that no more than five people are allowed in the pool at any time. I had planned to get in the pool with my baby as well, but that alone would have brought us to three people, meaning my daughter wouldn’t even have been allowed to swim with one friend who also had 3 guests in their room. To be fair, there is a large sign posted near the pool explaining the five-person limit (photo attached). However, this restriction was not disclosed anywhere on the hotel’s website when booking, and we had no idea the pool would effectively be unusable for families or small groups traveling together. When we asked if the girls could continue swimming since they had just gotten in, staff eventually returned and closed the pool for everyone for the rest of the night. It was disappointing because I specifically booked two nights here so we could enjoy the hotel amenities and spend time with teammates, and instead my daughter only got about 25–30 minutes in the pool during our entire stay. Other than the pool situation, the room itself was very nice and the hotel location is excellent. However, I would strongly recommend the hotel clearly disclose this five-person pool limit on their website, so families and teams traveling together can make an informed decision when booking. Because we specifically chose this hotel and paid a premium for the amenities, including the pool, it was disappointing that this policy made that experience essentially unavailable during our stay. We frequently travel for our kids’ competitions and normally try to choose hotels with good family amenities like pools, so we were especially disappointed that this restriction wasn’t disclosed when booking.

The only reason this hotel is not receiving five stars in the pool situation. We had a great stay otherwise. Our family of four (2 adults and 2 kids age 8/10) stayed at this location due to the great reviews and for the fact the hotel had a pool. The first night we went down to the pool and there was 8+ kids swimming and had no issues. The second evening we went to use the pool and the key wouldn’t work, although we could see others swimming. Another guest let us in but told us they were only allowing 5 people in the pool at one time. There was one family of 5 swimming. Now, I understand capacity rules but again this was not mentioned the night before, when booking the hotel, or during check in. This hotel was packed with kids for several kid type events this weekend (baseball/dance competitions). Embassy suites DO BETTER with communicating these rules. Everyone else book with caution if wanting to use the pool facilities for your children.

“Ok. Not great.”

Nice though not what I expected for Embassy Suites standard. Rather tired. We got a bad vibe from some young women dressed to party each with older single men. Very off.
