I did two nights at the Holiday Inn Marquette. Over the last 34 years, I’ve stayed here more times than I can easily count. This older property, dating to the 1970s, underwent an extensive renovation about two years before the pandemic, which included a new facade and a comprehensive interior refresh. The result is a hotel that, while not flawless, remains better than average. The location is reasonably convenient, staff are consistently polite, and the rooms are generally clean and functional. In a destination like Marquette, where most hotels are mid-level chain properties clustered along the highway, the Holiday Inn is one of the stronger options. Check-in on this stay was a highlight. The front desk staff were excellent: friendly, efficient, and genuinely welcoming. They were exactly the sort of employees any customer-facing business would want representing it. My IHG elite status was recognized without prompting. I was assigned a top-floor room with two queen beds. While acceptable, I would have preferred a king room, particularly since king rooms were available both at check-in and throughout my stay. The room itself reflected one of Holiday Inn’s more recent design iterations and was mostly in good condition. Outlets were easy to access, and the in-room amenities — a refrigerator, microwave, and large television with an extensive channel lineup — met expectations. Everything functioned properly. Overall, cleanliness was good. The only notable housekeeping concern was in the bathroom. The walk-in shower had visible mold and mildew in several areas, including corners and along the sliding door. It was noticeable and should be addressed. Obviously, there hasn't been a deep cleaning in a very long time. A more significant operational issue arose with the elevators. During my two-night stay, one elevator was out of service the entire time. With only two or three elevators serving nearly 200 rooms across five floors, the breakdown created delays and congestion. Given the scale of the pre-pandemic renovation, which was essentially a floor-to-ceiling rebuild, it is fair to wonder whether additional elevator capacity should have been part of that project. Housekeeping was another shortcoming. Despite staying two nights, my room was not serviced after the first night. The bathroom toiletries also raise questions. Rather than individual branded products, the hotel uses wall-mounted dispensers that housekeepers refill from unlabeled squeeze bottles kept on their carts. This practice raises legitimate concerns about sanitation and product consistency. Guests reasonably expect to know what they are using, particularly when a recognized brand name is advertised. Dining at MyPlace (the attached bar and restaurant) was a mixed experience. Breakfast is an awful buffet priced at $17 and change. For that cost, the quality and selection are underwhelming — inferior to the free breakfasts offered at Holiday Inn Express or Hampton Inn properties. Even basic cooked-to-order items like eggs or omelets are not available. If I'm being honest, a breakfast sandwich at McDonald's or Starbucks is better than the breakfast buffet at the Holiday Inn. Dinner is another story. The food is better than average for a Holiday Inn. While the burgers use frozen patties, the kitchen offers genuinely appealing options, including fresh local whitefish. Drink prices are reasonable. Given the choice between the hotel restaurant and nearby casual chains like Applebee’s or Buffalo Wild Wings, I would choose the hotel. Outside of downtown, it is probably one of the better dining options in the area. All things considered, the Holiday Inn Marquette benefits from a solid renovation, good staff and comfortable rooms. At the same time, basics like maintenance and a better breakfast would significantly improve the overall experience. For now, it’s a reliable choice in a market without any standout hotels.

“Clean & friendly ”

Nice place, very clean. Staff very helpful & friendly. Attached restaurant not the greatest, but good options sold in lobby and vending machine. Get a room not facing the highway if you are a light sleeper. Conviently located for us, will stay again!

It is an older hotel somewhat recently updated. So not bad. We just stayed for one night. A bit of an inconvenience to get to as you have to double back if coming from the east. Breakfast was not included and we didn't eat here. So a short review...
