Friendly staff. Great breakfast. Good beds. And a nice hot shower!! The shuttles are punctual and the drivers nice guys.

We stayed one night at the SpringHill Suites near the Mall of America on our way up to Duluth last weekend. We’ve stayed here once before (a couple months ago) and liked the layout of the 2-King Suite, so when a good cash+points rate popped up, we booked it again. The positives: The location is great — just a short drive to the MOA — and the front desk staff were very friendly. Our 2-king suite was spacious and well-designed, with a separate bedroom, another king bed in the main area, a comfortable living space, and a large bathroom. It worked perfectly for our 12-year-old niece who needed her own sleeping space. However, a few things really detracted from the stay. First, parking is… tricky. The hotel shares a small lot with a sister property, and spots are limited. We lucked out this time and found a spot near the door, but on our previous stay we ended up behind the hotel and down the hill, which felt a bit sketchy — especially considering there’s plenty of unused land around the property. The biggest issue on this stay was the deadbolt on our room. It didn’t work properly — when we tried to leave, it would stick open, and it took several tries to get it to release. It was genuinely unnerving; I worried we’d come back and it wouldn’t latch at all. When I mentioned it at checkout, the front desk immediately said, “The deadbolt sticks. We know. We’re working on it.” I have to admit, that was disappointing — if they already know a lock isn’t working correctly, it probably shouldn’t be rented out. We also had issues with the heat/air system; at one point it stopped producing heat or cool air entirely (only the fan worked). Breakfast was just okay: waffles and croissants were good, cereal fine, but no bacon or sausage, and all the eggs were pre-made omelets with cheese and other fillings — no plain option. Small thing, but a noticeable miss. Same with the lobby hot water, which was lukewarm at best; we ended up microwaving it to make hot chocolate. All that said, for a one-night stopover, it’s a decent, budget-friendly choice, and the suite layout is a real plus for families. But the little things — especially the deadbolt issue and maintenance oversights — really do make a difference. I hope management tackles those soon, because this could be an excellent option near the MOA with just a bit more attention to detail.

Only enough overhang at the entrance for 1 car and pretty tight space. Friendly and helpful staff. Poor lighting in room. Poor water pressure. Adjustable shower head but not handheld. No bathroom exhaust fan. Good bathroom counter space. Very hard yet lumpy beds and pillows. Room cleaned but not well cleaned, as there were spitballs stuck on the bathroom ceiling. Very Responsive in room HVAC. Only a handful of tv channels but easy to stream from your own accounts. Rooms are large with bedroom, sitting room and bathroom. 2 elevators, kind of slow but spacious. The room is well insulated from outside noise and only heard sound through the door from people being loud in the hall a couple times. Breakfast doesn’t start until 7am on the weekend which is too late I think but a sizable area for food it seemed. Underground parking option is small so must be booked far in advance. Shuttle shared with Hampton next door, sign up for shuttle to airport at front desk. Call for shuttle at airport after getting your bags and in waiting area, came within 10 minutes.
