I stayed several days at the Aloft St. Louis Cortex for work. The location is fine if you’re needing to be near the Cortex, but there isn’t a ton nearby otherwise both in terms of sightseeing or restaurants, thankfully the MetroLink station is pretty close. The hotel tries to have a bit of a funky/retro vibe and as they name suggests, the rooms are all loft style, which I’ll admit – I don’t love. Walking into the room immediately next to the door is your safe, shelves and hangers. Past that is the bathroom which is open with the exception of the toilet which has a sliding door. On the other side of the sink/mirror divider was the king size bed. The bed was fairly comfortable and nice. There’s a large TV mounted to the wall, unfortunately after the first day the cable was out for the rest of the stay! I heard they were working with the cable company to figure it out, but it didn’t get fixed during my visit. Each nightstand had ample plugs for charging and the one with the drawer had a cute reminder not to forget your stuff. There’s a little seating area with a small table, not much space but enough for your laptop. When you pull down the shades on the big window there are numbers, not sure if there’s any meaning to it. The bathroom area had a good amount of space around the sink for your stuff. There’s a nice rope light around the mirror and at least in my room’s configuration I learned that if you’re trying to take a relaxing shower before bed, you can turn off all the lights except for the one around the mirror and it creates a calming warm light for an evening shower. The shower itself was fine with enough room although I would have preferred an upgraded showerhead/wand combo. My issue with this being a loft setup is that the shower is in the same room as the bed, so if you have a steamy shower, it makes the whole place warm & steamy – not great when it’s hot outside. The only separate room was where the toilet is, just a small space with a hook there was well and some retro cassette tape wallpaper in there. There’s a gym that was fine, the times I used the gym there wasn’t ever more than one other person in it, so it worked out. There’s a bar on the upper level which I looked at but didn’t try out. The staff I interacted with were all nice.
