We return to this hotel because of the wonderful staff. Everyone from the front desk to breakfast attendants and housekeeping are very friendly and attentive to guest needs. As much as we enjoy it, a number of guest rooms need updating. Things like new carpet, fresh paint, and extensive bathroom remodels should be invested in to make the stay even better. We will return with hopes these updates are done.

“Bed bugs”

My mother and I stayed at The Best Western Coach House from Christmas Eve to the 28th. I live in Springfield , but my mother requires wheelchair accessibility, which my own home does not provide. When she visits, we stay in a hotel. This Best Western has a clean appearance and well maintained grounds with a positive rating, so I reserved our room. The room itself was large and comfortable. It was well appointed for wheelchair accessibility. We arrived in the later evening, and prepared for bed. As I got into bed I noticed a bug that I thought was a tick and I simply grabbed a Kleenex and crushed it and placed the Kleenex on the nightstand. I had noticed a hanger in the armoire that was labeled “pet hoodie” ( we do not have dogs, so this was from a previous guest), so I thought perhaps a tick had come in on a previous pet. I laid down and slept until I was awakened. Upon getting out of bed, I noticed another “tick” on my pillow. This time I googled image searched the bug and discovered it was a bed bug. I had two dead bed bugs in Kleenex’s at this point. In the morning I took them both to the front desk and quietly asked for a different, wheelchair accessible, room and gave the clerk my Kleenex’s. She was very nice and gave us a new room. I have never dealt with bed bugs before so I asked what we should do with our bags. The clerk gave me a couple of trash bags and told me to send everything through the dryer. Because I live here, I bagged up our clothes and bags and took them to my house to wash and dry. Everyday I have taken things to my house to wash and dry. I do not want to transport those bugs anywhere else. In addition, I have 14 bites on my body that have itched and I have been applying bug cream to them. It’s been a very long stay. The second room was clean, but not as nice as the first room. The second night I had a cricket spider crawling on my in the night, which I also killed. The third night was uneventful, and the fourth night, a carload of people drove through the parking lot acting a fool. Housekeeping did not come in today, so I discarded our trashcan trash and went down to the office to exchange my towels. We will check out in the morning. I would not recommend this Best Western. I understand spiders and loud people, and housekeeping not exchanging towels or trash. However, I am itchy and tired from trying to make sure I don’t carry bed bugs home to my house, or that my mother does not take them back to her nursing home. This will be the last time I stay here. I did not purchase trip insurance, or I would not have stayed for the entire 4 night stay. The breakfast is adequate and the staff is friendly. The rooms are not immaculate, but they are not filthy. I would have stayed here again but for the bed bugs.
