“The food, the atmosphere, and the rooms. Perfect.”

The Inn is the center of downtown and you will be happy you chose to stay here!! The casitas on the property are so well appointed and maintained it was impressive. Next time we will book far enough in advance so we can request a room with a balcony above the live musicians playing every night. … more

“Wonderful place to stay in historic Taos!”

Great old inn that we particularly enjoyed because the Pueblo style isn’t something we see at home. Immaculate and nicely decorated room with newer TV we could stream a favorite show on when most hotels still provide horrible cable. Big roomy bathroom, too. Had a great dinner in the Adobe bar!

I recently returned to the Historic Taos Inn after last staying in 2020 and was genuinely looking forward to it. Unfortunately, this was a disappointing stay. Let’s start with the positives. The main building is beautiful and full of character. The adobe architecture and historic feel are exactly what you want in Taos. It’s a great place to grab a drink or sit by the fire. But most guests won’t actually stay in that building. The majority of rooms are located in older, motel-style structures around the property. The grounds feel a bit run down, and the difference between the charming lobby and the guest rooms is noticeable. The rooms themselves are simply worn out. Not “historic” or “rustic” in a thoughtful way—just tired. My first room had a bathtub that was heavily worn and clearly needed to be replaced or refinished. Carpets look like they haven’t been updated in decades. Towels were thin, and there were almost no amenities. No coffeemaker, no extras, nothing that justifies the price point. Not even a bottle of water. There are also basic maintenance and safety concerns. The window shutters in my room didn’t lock, meaning the only barrier was a screen. That’s not acceptable. Noise insulation is awful. You will hear everything your neighbors are doing. The biggest disappointment: the fireplaces. I specifically booked this hotel for that experience based on a prior stay. The fireplaces are no longer usable because the chimneys are closed for the season, but this is not disclosed when booking. That feels a little misleading. At least disclose what the season is for fireplaces. On a side note, while the fireplaces can no longer be used, the area around the fireplace had ash and other debris from the fireplace. Housekeeping could at least clean the fireplace area. Cleanliness in the bathroom was also poor. The showerhead had something on it. Needless to say, I didn't use the shower. Dining is also an issue where there needs to be better disclosure. The hotel advertises two restaurants, but it’s the same menu in both spaces. At about $200 per night, this property is simply not a good value. Come for a drink, enjoy the atmosphere, but stay somewhere else.
