Cute little find in Washington Heights. We stayed here because it is walking distance from the Nike Armory where my daughter competed. Small hotel, boutique-ish. There is a gym and lounge downstairs, no pool. The staff is very attentive and accommodating. Luis held our bags until check-in so we could roam the city. It's not too far from places to eat and hang--Fort Washington Public house is a local bar that is cool; pizza places, deli, bodegas, Starbucks etc are in walking distance or offer delivery--ON BIKES, but still you can get it! The room was small, the bathroom too, but I expected this...the most important thing was that it was CLEAN--and it was. You can't beat it for a 3 star hotel.

We stayed at the Edge Hotel while visiting family in Washington Heights over Thanksgiving. The hotel is conveniently located near the Columbia University Medical Center and only a block from the 1, A, and C lines. Our room was small (typical of NYC) but comfortable. The hotel is clean, safe, and well-managed. The staff is very friendly. I would stay there again.

Small boutiquey hotel in Washington Heights, really the only choice if you or a family member is receiving care at the Columbia U medical campus just a coupla blocks west. For that reason alone, The Edge is fine. It's on a relatively quiet block and seems to be reasonably safe. We liked it far better than the two Marriott choices about 40 blocks south in Harlem, (which for all the hype about gentrification and authentic culture, is still not much of an inviting neighborhood). This neighborhood, which is also part of Little Dominican Republic, was quite welcoming, with main streets busy most hours, and stores and bodegas open late -- most of them family businesses operated by friendly people with a genuine stake in things. Hotel itself with just 50-or-so-rooms, has a quiet vibe -- perfect atmosphere for us considering the stress we were under during our stay. Just about everyone we encountered from the staff was lovely and seemed quite hardworking. Rooms are clean, small but efficient. Tiny bathroom could use more light -- and counter space, easily done with more efficient shelving. Water pressure is pretty good. Thermostat and TV are both problematic, overly complicated, dated and often not working correctly. We had no use of TV dial for almost all of our entire 3-week stay, despite several valiant efforts by the building staff. This was the one true problem we encountered and should have been addressed by staff on checkout, but was not. Towels and linens are great. Mattress just ok. Small lobby 'snack bar' also offers paper plates and cups. Lower level has a small gym, lounge and microwave. All in all a good choice if you must be in this location. Could be great with a few key upgrades.
