We nearly didn't book this hotel because the reviews seemed a bit hit-and-miss, but we're very glad we did. We’ve previously stayed in a bunch of different places around town. Pros: No “destination/resort” fee! The location felt really safe throughout our stay, and there is visible security around reception during the overnight hours. The hotel is in a nice neighbourhood, just a few minutes' walk from the subway, making it easy to get around the city and away from the crazy of Times Square. Breakfast was genuinely excellent and far exceeded our expectations. The hotel arranged gluten-free bagels for us on request at check-in, which was greatly appreciated after our emails prior to the stay went unanswered. There was a wide variety of rotating hot and cold options each morning, and honestly, the breakfast was better than what I've experienced in many executive lounges at full-service US hotel brands. The breakfast team worked incredibly hard keeping everything stocked and refreshed, even during the busiest periods. Housekeeping was fantastic. They always respected the Do Not Disturb sign and never interrupted us unnecessarily. Gloria deserves special recognition for doing an amazing job freshening up our room when we needed service. Bryant on the afternoon/evening reception shift was also lovely, and incredibly helpful throughout our stay. A special thank you as well to the manager, Dawn, who was outstanding from start to finish and made a real difference to our experience. One concern we had before arriving was reports of construction noise, but we didn't see or hear any construction during our stay. We actually stayed in two different rooms and both were exceptionally quiet, with no outside noise at all. Some rooms also feature a double-door arrangement that helps reduce noise from the hallway and other guests. With only around 10 rooms per floor, the hotel felt quiet. Air conditioning was excellent, we had a heat wave whilst there and the rooms were lovely and cool. And for anyone wondering from a previous review —we checked carefully and found absolutely no signs of bed bugs. The guest laundry facilities were also very useful, with a single washing machine and dryer available for guests. As for the negatives, room sizes do vary slightly by shape but are compact as advertised and reported. Some reception staff were grumpy and unhelpful, which was inconsistent compared to the excellent service we received from others. Also, one elevator appears to be permanently out of service, leaving only a single lift operating. If you're staying on a higher floor, it's worth allowing extra time, especially during busy periods. Breakfast can also get quite busy, and you may occasionally need to wait a minute for a table, although the breakfast staff do an outstanding job keeping everything refreshed and flowing smoothly. Overall this was a great stay for us. The excellent breakfast, quiet rooms, convenient location, strong housekeeping team, and standout staff members made this a very enjoyable stay, and we would happily stay here again.
