“Decent Midtown Hotel”

This hotel was perfectly adequate. Rooms were clean and staff were nice enough. Lobby is a bit lackluster, but we weren’t there to hang out in it! Very conveniently located to MSG and Penn Station.

“Good position but needs update”

This hotel is in a great position. Handy for the subway, Amtrak and 5th Avenue. Only 10 mins walk to Times Square. However the rooms are dated and tired. The hot water was very slow to come through and the shower barely ok. It needs a complete update. We were in room 1405.

Mission & Concept ★★★✰✰ The Hotel at Fifth Avenue focuses on location and practicality rather than creating a distinctive hotel experience. While it serves well as a central base for exploring Manhattan, it lacks a strong identity or standout feature that sets it apart from competing hotels in the area. Its main appeal is its convenient location, but it lacks some of the character and atmosphere that would make guests genuinely look forward to returning to the hotel after a day in the city. Cleanliness & Condition ★✰✰✰✰ The hotel was generally clean, and housekeeping maintained the room well throughout our stay. However, the overall condition of the property was disappointing. The room often felt too warm, the windows were constantly fogged up, and ventilation appeared to be poor. Several facilities also seemed to be in need of repair. One elevator was out of service, the remaining elevators appeared worn, and the air conditioning was extremely loud. We also noticed that the room door did not seal properly, leaving a visible gap that affected both privacy and the overall impression of the room. Sleep & Rest ★★✰✰✰ The quality of sleep was negatively affected by the room climate, the loud air conditioning, and the overall noise level. As a result, it was sometimes difficult to fully relax and recover, which became frustrating during our stay. Functionality & Comfort ★★✰✰✰ Functionality and comfort were affected by several operational issues during our stay. One elevator was out of service, while the remaining elevator appeared to be in poor condition. We were also disappointed that luggage storage was only available until around 5:00 AM on the day of departure, which limited flexibility for later travel plans. While these issues did not significantly impact our stay, they reduced the overall level of convenience we expected. Service & Attitude ★★★★✰ The staff was generally friendly and professional, and we did not experience any major service-related issues during our stay. Housekeeping was reliable, and our room was cleaned consistently throughout our visit. That being said, we made only limited use of the hotel's services, so our experience with the staff was relatively brief. Based on the interactions we had, however, we were satisfied with the overall level of service provided. Location & Context ★★★★✰ The location was good and generally well suited for exploring Manhattan. A subway station was located nearby, and there were plenty of restaurants, cafés, and shopping options within walking distance. While the location was not necessarily a standout feature of the hotel, it was convenient and provided easy access to many of the places we wanted to visit. Overall, it met our expectations and contributed positively to our stay. Value for money ★★★✰✰ Considering the points mentioned above, the price was acceptable overall, but at times it felt somewhat high for the level of comfort and quality provided. Given some of the issues we experienced, we would have expected either a lower rate or a more polished overall experience.While we did not feel that the hotel was poor value, we believe it would be more attractively priced at a slightly lower rate, particularly during peak travel seasons. Overall rating ★★★✰✰ Overall, we would rate The Hotel at Fifth Avenue 3 out of 5 stars. While the hotel offered a decent location, friendly staff, and generally clean accommodations, several issues throughout our stay negatively affected our overall impression. None of the problems we encountered were severe on their own, but together they made the experience less comfortable than expected. The room climate, loud air conditioning, maintenance issues, and operational limitations were the main concerns. For this reason, we do not currently plan to return. However, we believe many of these issues are solvable and hope improvements will be made in the future. Overall, we consider 3 stars to be a fair rating based on our experience and wish the hotel success in continuing to improve.
