Amazing positive energy. Like a warm, loving home. I had an absolutely amazing experience at this hostel. It is in a really safe area close to subway and central NYC- the rooms are good, modern, clean and the staff is 5 star service minded. They really went out of their way to do everything in a remarkable way for me! And they are so chill and friendly and GENUINE!! I just loved my stay in every single way! You have to go here! 😊 Thank you!!!

Great place for price, booked last minute for 6 nights, stayed in 4 bed room with its own toilet and separate shower room, only 2 stops from Central Park SE corner, Common seating area with projector screen and other with desks and tables where phones/laptops can be charged, bar with hot/cold drinks available all day, common kitchen with all stuff needed, staff very helpfull and friendly, padlock for spacious locker next to bed provided if needed, pizza place few steps away and some cafe's and local food shops nearby, 10 minutes walk to park with great day/night view on to East Side of Manhattan. Recommended by UK/Poland visitor.

Amazing experience at this local NY stay! The rooms were clean, and the environment was very friendly. The staff were hospitable, except for one person, but luckily, I had amazing roommates. It felt like an Airbnb! Also, had complimentary coffee after checkout. I gave it 4 stars because I wished there was more space, ideally 2-person or 1-person per room accommodation. Overall, a great stay!

“Lower your expectations and you'll love The Local”

At first, I was lost but that's just the nature of Queens' layout. Once you do find the corner of 21st Street and 44th Drive and see the 'LIC Hotel', you'll know you're on the right path and that the Local is not too much further. Upon entering, you come across their in-house bar/cafe. Got a coffee, which I really needed as the day was very early, but also because drip was all they had at the time. Did my pre-check in at the front desk as I was early. Looked for a place to sit among all the secondhand furniture that had seen better days and chose a long desk with a power strip built into it to recharge my devices. At least the bed and sheets upstairs would be clean. Fingers crossed! Once I was checked in and sent upstairs, I encountered my first problem. My key card didn't work. I went downstairs to get it re-coded and was accompanied by the front desk person to ensure it worked. Once successfully inside the room, I proceeded to put all my things in my numbered footlocker and lock it with the lock they gave me, only to discover the key didn't work. Another return to the front desk and I received a new key and lock. I liked the fact that the shower and toilet were in separate rooms and that the handwashing sink was outside them both, because sometimes you just need to wash your hands and don't want to disturb a roommate to do so. The numbered footlockers under each bed (with the exception of #4) were very large. Perfect for fitting almost all sorts of suitcases. There was temperature control in the room, but the one in mine wasn't working for two out of the three days in December that I was there. Guess that was the purpose of their providing us with very thick duvets to sleep under. The lobby/living room was comfortable to sit around in and the WiFi was fast and easy to connect to. They have music playing some nights, but it can't be heard up in the rooms so your sleep will not be disturbed. All in all, while the building shows its age and the interior looks awful and the technology both digital and analog doesn't always work, this was a good stay. Don't know if I'll stay here again. Maybe if it's the only option in my price range.
