We booked into the Yotel Times Square @ the very last minute when our travel plans changed. The price was right. The location was good. It seemed like a decent choice - then I read some online reviews and I began to worry. I don’t know what the nay-sayers are thinking. Yes, it’s not a full-service hotel and the rooms are wonky - but anyone who’s traveled outside the U.S. should be familiar with the fact that space is at a premium in many cities. We found the rooms to be well laid-out, much like your basic cruise ship cabin. They were clean, comfortable, and the beds were comfortable. That’s all we wanted and that’s what we got. I’ll agree that our room could have used a slight refresh. Also, there were odd distant slamming noises heard occasionally (perhaps from slamming doors?) and our room wasn’t cleaned on the last night of our stay - but this isn’t the Four Seasons and the Yotel doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what it is. Certainly you can do better if you’re willing to pay for that sort of experience. We weren’t - and we got a decent hotel in a good location at an acceptable rate. Bonus points: Chez Josephine is right around the corner! We wouldn’t hesitate to book a room here again.

I love staying at Yotel but my most recent visit showed that perhaps you get what you pay for?? The AC did not work on my first, unseasonably warm night (they fixed it quickly the next day) but then I discovered POOP on the floor!?! Dog poop (I hope!). I told the front desk and they said they'd have a manager call me ... No one did. Then after checking out, I realized that I left my curling iron in my room, so I called and asked (just 2 hours later). They said they'd check and let me know. All day passed-- nothing. So I called to check, thinking if they found out, I could stop by the next day before leaving the city. But no one answered the phone, all day or night!? Nor the next morning before I drove home. Finally someone answered the next day, who passed me on to some "lost and found" company for NYC hotels, who emailed me a few days later that they found it. If I paid something like $30, they'd ship it back to me. Over two weeks later, I'm still waiting... Utterly disappointing.

The Yotel was one of our go-to choices in midtown (location, nice rooms, staff and price). However, it seems they have let their rooms deteriorate little by little. 1) The bed mechanism did not operate-just made noise when pressed (this is not a big deal for us, as in our past stays most of their bed adjustment mechanisms did not work); 2) The room phone is dead-this is not good, as one cannot call for a medical issue or other problem, and is a clear safety issue; 3) The safe was locked on arrival, and after waiting 40 minutes, then again a second time, was notified it is permanently broke and cannot be fixed. We had to carry our cash and rings every time we left the room-also not safe when out and about in NYC, and 4) The reading light over our bed was broke-flickering like a strobe light. Had to leave whole room lights on to read. But the price was good for the location, and the room was very clean with a comfy bed. However, next time we will go to our second choice nearby, even if a few dollars more. A safe and a working phone (for unlikely emergencies) a must for us.
