“Great Hotel”

Really enjoyed this hotel and location. All the little treats - cold ice water, apples and welcome drinks made it extra special. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Everything was close by and we enjoyed our stay in Portland.

This is a very nice hotel really close to good restaurants and other fun in downtown Portland. Price was really reasonable for the level of hotel. We were on the 17th floor with a city view. Portland is not one of your great skylines like New York or even Seattle, but still cool. Staff were friendly. Place is good at being fancy with out being pretentious. If we got the same rate we would definitely stay again. The restaurant in the hotel is nice, but over priced. But the menu is posted and online, so the price isn't a shock. Valet parking was a little steep, but worth it. Had a chance to get valet ahead of time on the website. They wanted 2 days of valet for a one night stay that way. Getting it there when we arrived, I was only charged for 1 day. Valet has unlimited in and out which is nice. Front desk staff were friendly and got good food recommendations from them, local choices they liked, not just what's fancy, so that was a plus. Overall a really nice experience.

I wish I had gotten names of the front desk staff who helped me with check in and out and extra towels and Nespresso pods every day. They were all great. We stayed in a 19th (top) floor two queen beds room. Views were absolutely amazing. The window opened for ventilation which was also appreciated since Portland weather is so pleasant. Every morning from 5-7, locally produced coffee and tea (along with individual coffee mate creamers and sweeteners) is available in the lobby from Portland Coffee Roasters and Steven Smith Teamaker (highly recommend doing a tasting at their tearoom at 110 SE Washington). I loved that Dossier supports local businesses. The same is true at the gorgeous Portland airport where the restaurants and shops are all local. It was really nice staying at a hotel without that “chain hotel” vibe. There is a Nespresso machine in room, and you can ask for more pods at the front desk. I had never used a Nespresso before but directions are included and I ended up using it multiple times a day. Portland tap water tastes great so bring a refillable water bottle. There are bottle fill stations all over (parks, museums, etc), and Dossier has one in the fitness center on the 3rd floor. Our room was spotless and well maintained when we arrived. Housekeeping is available on request. We unexpectedly returned and interrupted the four person crew cleaning our room. Changing sheets, scrubbing the bathroom and cleaning room surfaces. I would also like to mention the woman who cleans the lobby area every morning about 5am. She wet mops the inlaid tile floors in the elevators and the lobby area and keeps everything in the welcome area spotless. Remember to tip your housekeeping crew. I appreciate Dossier’s efforts toward sustainability. In addition to refillable bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and lotion bottles in the bathroom, there are water glasses in the bathroom and ceramic Nespresso cups by the machine. As far as security, Dossier was a great place to stay. The elevators require room key access before operating. We used valet parking which was perfect, with quick (usually about ten minute) retrieval of our rental car and in/out service. There were EV chargers on site so valet would be a convenient option to make sure your car stayed charged and ready to go. I’m not a huge fan of valet in general, just because I don’t like waiting for my car, but the ability to text the valet so the car would be waiting out front but the time we got downstairs was quick and easy. No need for cash for tips for your valet. There’s a texted link I used with Apple Pay. Seems like every hotel in this area of Portland has an amenities fee and valet only parking. Valet parking costs more than one of the parking garages near the hotel, but I’d say worth it for the convenience and security. Pioneer Courthouse Square is very close, just a short walk from Dossier and would be easy to access if using public transportation. The area around the hotel is very walkable. A quick online search will give you lots of options for restaurants and shops. Powell’s Books, for instance, was only a few minutes away. As far as safety, use common sense and don’t leave valuables visible in your car. Sadly, like many US cities, there is a noticeable homeless population. I went all over Portland (and Oregon) and never had a negative experience or felt unsafe. We ate at Bistro Alder, the on site restaurant, for breakfast before we left. Service was perfect, and food and lattes were delicious. They provide room service as well as two happy hours every day. The website is not accurate for HH information, so check at the front desk or posted signs. Overall, great stay with no notes and I would recommend to friends.
