This was a last minute booking, as there were few rooms left in Alexandria La due to a large conference in town. I was grateful there was a room available. Looks like a charming hotel, (and probably was about 50 years ago?), but unfortunately the whole place needs renovation it seems. The front desk clerk was as tired as the furniture and the walls, not a welcome greeting, or "enjoy your stay", except "breakfast 6-10 tomorrow" without making eye contact with me. It was very warm in the public areas, front desk, hall way, breakfast area... The toilet in my room did not flush. I called the front desk, just to let them know, not needing repair at that time of night, but just to let them know. He said "thank you" and hung up. The room furniture is very old, scratched up. The carpet was worn, and musty smelling. The pillows were comfortable, but the mattress was not - the middle was sunk in. I went out the next morning to sit by the pool and read (not to swim). It was disgusting. Half the pool was drained, and it was full of leaves and trash. I did not see a sign indicating that the pool was closed. The pool still appears as a hotel amenity on their website. Good news: the a.c. worked like a charm! And the bathroom towels were surprisingly soft and a good size! I have a feeling this property is soon to be purchased and/or renovated, and returned to the charming hotel it was once. (It has great potential) Or be closed down... p.s. the front desk clerks the following morning were super pleasant! I think maybe the night clerk was just tired. I checked in at 9:00 pm.
